Best moment of Bush's speech had no words
The Chicago Tribune ^ | February 4, 2005 | John Kass

The news is full of the politics of Social Security. The hunt for terrorist master al-Zarqawi ratchets up. The UN oil-for-food scandal oozes mightily.

All these are important, but I just can't get that hug out of my mind. It happened Wednesday night, I saw it on TV, and I still can't shake it.

I'm stuck on it, seeing those two women hugging during President Bush's State of the Union speech, their bodies close, souls weary, the Marine mom and the Iraqi woman, speaking to each other through touch, their hearts breaking and American hearts breaking with them.

Some scribes and TV pundits suggested it was staged and protected themselves from the hug with cynicism. This happens to people who've been brutalized by politics, or have been broken in other ways, or when their interests are threatened by what they're seeing before their eyes, like that dangerous hug.

How about Clinton and Hillary dancing on a "secluded" beach a few days before the Monica Lewinsky story broke?

And Bush stood there and watched them with a tear in his eye. He was already behind on time in a big speech and he never tried to draw attention back to himself or restart the speech... he didn't grimace or smirk or shuffle his papers.. he just watched them with obvious emotion.

I personally think he was incredibly proud of their son and what he gave his life for. Which, for a commander-in-chief, is exactly what I'm looking for.

Don't hold your breathe waiting for Matthews to apologize to anyone!

He's probably so used to democrats staging events for political effect that he is incapable of perceiving the real thing!

Matthews is the new Dan Rather.

Nahh. He never hid his bias. The man worked for Tip O'Neil and was a speechwriter in the Carter administration.

Matthews is too busy getting sherry enemas from Ron Jr. to have time for apologies.

There was nothing staged about that hug. Libs are so out of touch that they can't even begin to understand how touching that moment was. Heartless bastards.

A poignant moment-within-the-moment was the silent sound of millions of liberals spontaneously combusting.

Fear is in control....

Chris Matthews demonstrated the power of fear when he said the hug between the two obviously overcome ladies at the STOU was staged. Poor old Chris felt the cold grip of fear taking hold of his being as he witnessed all he holds dear running down the historical drain. The ability to hold back his leftist mindset vanished. All semblance of self control and prudence disappeared. Raw fear took control and forced out the most vitriolic statement he could muster. The women having a real, honest to God historic moment were fakes, staged by the RNC PR minions.

His control over bias was released. He was unable to report what he saw because the intense weight of fear overcoming his being would not allow truth. He had to lash out. He went on autopilot trying to overcome the powerful speech of the President and the emotional historical message conveyed to the world by the ladies in the gallery.

As fear continues to control and as the sense of actual doom permeates the various media types, there will be an increase in the bias as resurrection of lost cause is desperately attempted.

Chris Matthews owes the everyone involved an APOLOGY...

Why do you even worry about that guy? He's a DC burn-out who has nothing intelligent to add. He is what the author of this article had in mind when he wrote:

This happens to people who've been brutalized by politics...

Matthews eats, drinks and sleeps nothing but politics and sees the world entirely through that filter. It makes him a very shallow person and worthless as a commentator. He can't begin to see the bigger picture of life.

I don't worry about Chris Matthews, I just think people like him will do anything and say anything to undermine the good this country does around the world. He is typical of the lefts hat America crowd.

I also think, his cynical behavior comes from knowing what the left has done and continues to do. Because the liberal left has staged photo ops for years, it's not in his mindset to see anything as being honest.

I've enjoyed reading the comments about Chris Matthews!

Believe it or not, last December, my son, who is a student at George Washington University in DC got into a "shouting match" with Matthews at a breakfast for Republican women. Matthews was the guest speaker at the event. (Don't ask me why they invited him).

I wrote it up and posted it on Free Republic at the time under the title: "Chris Matthews Goes Off On College Student!" We had a lot of fun with it as you can see by the many responses. If you're interested, here's a link to the article:

Mr. and Mrs. Norwood were on Hannity & Colmes last night. When asked why she wrote that letter to President Bush, she said that her son was proud that he was Commander In Chief, and that they were sadden by the "burden' he had as being Commander In Chief in time of war. They were so compassionate and sincere. It was kleenex time all over again.
