Tancredo hits Bush on immigration
Manchester Union Leader ^ | February 4, 2005 | Gary Rayno

Posted on 02/04/2005 4:26:13 AM PST by billorites

U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado wants to hold Presidential candidates' feet to the fire to help stop illegal immigration and secure the country's borders.

"This is an issue I want all the Presidential candidates to debate. I want the candidates when they come here to answer the questions, 'What are you going to do about the borders? Will you commit troops to the border?' " Tancredo, a Republican, said in an interview with The Union Leader.

Illegal immigration and securing the country's borders affect every aspect of American life, including jobs, health care, education and national security, he said.

"The issue is where do you get cheaper workers. Cheap is only that to employers, not to the American taxpayers," he said.

Tancredo came to New Hampshire on a two-day trip to raise the issue of immigration reform together with Angela "Bay" Buchanan, chairman of Team America, a political action committee focusing on immigration reform. Tancredo is the founding chairman of the organization.

Their first stop was to present an American Patriot Award to New Ipswich Police Chief Garrett Chamberlain; he detained nine Ecuadorian immigrants last summer, but federal officials told him to release them.

Tancredo will also speak on several radio programs, including the "Howie Carr Show" on WRKO radio today at 5 p.m. He will meet with Republican state representatives and conservative activists, and he will speak at Nashua Christian High School.

Yesterday, Tancredo was critical of the Bush administration's position to allow illegal immigrants already in the United States to remain here under a "guest worker" program. "He says he is against amnesty, and then in the next sentence he defines amnesty. That's Clintonesque, and it really bugs me," he said.

Tancredo said Bush is proposing amnesty and will encourage billions more people to cross the border illegally and tell everyone who entered legally they are suckers.

Congress last year authorized doubling the number of border control offices, but former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge refused to spend the money, he said. "If something (like the terrorist attacks of 9/11) happens, you tell me someone shouldn't be liable with the attitude of this administration," Tancredo said.

He said he will introduce a bill this session to double the number of border patrol officers and train them to use technology for better surveillance of the borders. He estimated it would cost about $8 million to double the border patrol and several billion dollars for the technology.

Until the number of patrol officers is doubled, Tancredo said, he would have the military help watch the borders. "We could seal the borders, but we choose not to" because of political pressure, he said.

He said he is finding more and more converts to his way of thinking.

"If this were not an issue for John Q. Public, it would not be an issue in Congress," he said.

Tancredo, in his fourth term in the U.S. House, serves on the House International Relations and Resources Committee and on the Budget Committee. He is chairman of the House Immigration Reform Caucus.

Tancredo was a school teacher before serving in the Colorado Legislature and then in the U.S. Department of Education during the administrations of Ronald Reagan and the senior George Bush. He was also head of the Independence Institute, a libertarian-leaning think tank in Golden, Colo

I don't have as much *faith* in your link, as you seem to.

I'm not afraid of truth.

He DID recant his term limit pledge.

And he did explain to his voters, why he was running again. They reelected him by 2 to 1......(This seems to be one election *you* just can't get over).

He DID have illegals do work in his home.

Never proven, & sadly there are million of employers hiring illegals everyday because these employers are not phony 'document specialists'.

So why doesn't our govt make it mandatory to verify SS#'s. (Guess govt still not *serious* about illegal employment & tax invasion)

We all know Dick Lamm as the former Governor of Colorado. In that context, his thoughts are particularly poignant.

Recently, there was an immigration-overpopulation conference in Washington, DC, filled to capacity by many of American's finest minds and leaders. A brilliant college professor named Victor Hansen Davis talked about his latest book, "Mexifornia," explaining how immigration - both legal and illegal - was destroying the entire state of California. He said it would march across the country until it destroyed all vestiges of The American Dream.

Moments later, former Colorado Governor Richard D. Lamm stood up and gave a stunning speech on how to destroy America. The audience sat spellbound as he described eight methods for the destruction of the United States. He said, "If you believe that America is too smug, too self-satisfied, too rich, then let's destroy America. It is not that hard to do. No nation in history has survived the ravages of time. Arnold Toynbee observed that all great civilizations rise and fall and that 'An autopsy of history would show that all great nations commit suicide.'"

"Here is how they do it," Lamm said: "Turn America into a bilingual or multi-lingual and bi-cultural country. History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; however, it is a curse for a society to be bilingual.

"The historical scholar Seymour Lipset put it this way: 'The histories of bilingual and bi-cultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension, and tragedy.' Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, Lebanon all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces difficulties with Basques, Bretons, and Corsicans."

Lamm went on: "Invent 'multi-culturalism' and encourage immigrants to maintain their culture. I would make it an article of belief that all cultures are equal. That there are no cultural differences. I would make it an article of faith that the Black and Hispanic dropout rates are due to prejudice and discrimination by the majority. Every other explanation is out of bounds.

"We could make the United States an 'Hispanic Quebec' without much effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than unity. As Benjamin Schwarz said in the Atlantic Monthly recently: 'The apparent success of our own multi-ethnic and multi-cultural experiment might have been achieved not by tolerance but by hegemony. Without the dominance that once dictated ethnocentrically and what it meant to be an American, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism to hold us together.'" Lamm said, "I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own language and culture. I would replace the melting pot metaphor with the salad bowl metaphor. It is important to ensure that we have various cultural sub-groups living in America reinforcing their differences rather than as Americans, emphasizing their similarities."

"Fourth, I would make our fastest growing demographic group the least educated. I would add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated, and antagonistic to our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50% dropout rate from high school."

"My fifth point for destroying America would be to get big foundations and business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic identity, and I would establish the cult of 'Victimology.' I would get all minorities to think their lack of success was the fault of the majority. I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population."

"My sixth plan for America's downfall would include dual citizenship and promote divided loyalties. I would celebrate diversity over unity. I would stress differences rather than similarities. Diverse people worldwide are mostly engaged in hating each other - that is, when they are not killing each other."

"A diverse, peaceful, or stable society is against most historical precedent. People undervalue the unity it takes to keep a nation together. Look at the ancient Greeks. The Greeks believed that they belonged to the same race; they possessed a common language and literature; and they worshipped the same gods. All Greece took part in the Olympic games. A common enemy Persia threatened their liberty. Yet all these bonds were not strong enough to over come two factors: local patriotism and geographical conditions that nurtured political divisions. Greece fell. "E. Pluribus Unum" -- > From many, one. In that historical reality, if we put the emphasis on the 'pluribus' instead of the 'unum,' we can balkanize America as surely as Kosovo."

"Next to last, I would place all subjects off limits ~ make it taboo to talk about anything against the cult of 'diversity.' I would find a word similar to 'heretic' in the 16th century - that stopped discussion and paralyzed thinking. Words like 'racist' or 'zenophobe' halt discussion and debate."

"Having made America a bilingual/ bicultural country, having established multi-culturism, having the large foundations fund the doctrine of 'Victimology,' I would next make it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a mantra: That because immigration has been good for America , it must always be good. I would make every individual immigrant sympatric and ignore the cumulative impact of millions of them."

In the last minute of his speech, Governor Lamm wiped his brow. Profound silence followed. Finally he said, "Lastly, I would censor Victor Hanson Davis's book Mexifornia. His book is dangerous. It exposes the plan to destroy America. If you feel America deserves to be destroyed, don't read that book."

There was no applause. A chilling fear quietly rose like an ominous cloud above every attendee at the conference. Every American in that room knew that everything Lamm enumerated was proceeding methodically, quietly, darkly, yet pervasively across the United States today. Every discussion is being suppressed. Over 100 languages are ripping the foundation of our educational system and national cohesiveness.

Barbaric cultures that practice female genital mutilation are growing as we celebrate 'diversity.' American jobs are vanishing into the Third World as corporations create a Third World in America - take note of California and other states - to date, ten million illegal aliens and growing fast. It is reminiscent of George Orwell's book "1984." In that story, three slogans are engraved in the Ministry of Truth building: "War is peace," "Freedom is slavery," and "Ignorance is strength."

Governor Lamm, walked back to his seat. It dawned on everyone at the conference that our nation and the future of this great democracy is deeply in trouble and worsening fast. If we don't get this immigration monster stopped within three years, it will rage like a California wildfire and destroy everything in its path, especially The American Dream.

Unwittingly? Why didn't Tom do anything about it?
The illegal alien had false papers, so Tancredo was the second-hand subject of FRAUD.
Too busy deporting high school honor students to police his own house?
The story borke because an immigrant alleged that he illegally worked at Tancredo's house many months before the issue of an illegal alien asking for in-state tuition arose.
Any more BS?

" He estimated it would cost about $8 million to double the border patrol and several billion dollars for the technology."

Sorry, Mr. Tancredo, we're sending $135 Million to the PLO, per the state of the union address. Tom Ridge already told you that they weren't even going to fund the border agents required in the Intelligence bill.

If Tancredo thinks he can do a much better job, then where is his alternative plan?

There's no need for an alternative plan. The government should attempt to enforce the laws that are on the books and then re-evaluate once that has been tried.

The only man talking sense on this issue.

You know, if the other 70-some-odd members of that Immigration Reform Caucus made the kind of noise Tancredo does Bush wouldn't utter a whisper of his amnesty insanity.

Speaking of Colorado:

ILLEGAL ALIEN HANDBOOK - BY THE STATE OF COLORADO

LOU DOBBS, CNN. Aired 2/2/05

CASEY WIAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT : The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that children of illegal aliens are entitled to an education in this country, but some say the Colorado Department of Education has taken that too far.

Until this week, its Web site offered a Spanish language brochure called Survival Guide for Recent Arrivals to Colorado. Along with information useful to legal immigrants, it contains tips clearly intended for illegal aliens.

The guide advises "The job of the police is not to report you to immigration"; "Always carry the name and phone number of an attorney who will take your calls"; Some lawyers help illegal aliens for a very low price"; and "Many businesses employ illegal aliens since they do not have the responsibility to investigate the legal status of employees.

The guide was endorsed by Denver's Mexican consulate, but it also contained a welcome message from Colorado Governor Bill Owens who says he thought it was advice for legal immigrants. Governor Owens ordered it removed from the state's Web site this week after Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo wrote a letter of protest.

REP. TOM TANCREDO (R), COLORADO: It's amazing. What would the Mexican government do if we did something like that? They would immediately file a protest. Yet we are really silent on it because I think we are co-conspirators.

WIAN: The booklet was produced and distributed by an immigrant education group called Focus Points Family Resource Center. It said in a statement, "The guide tries to inform people of their rights. It informs people how to navigate the community safely."

Funding came in part from First Data Western Union, which profits from illegal aliens sending money home. The guide even mentions Western Union and includes a sample family budget showing $200 for relatives in Mexico.

WIAN: The Colorado Department of Education's director of English language acquisition says the guide contains lots of useful information, and, if some portions are raising concerns, he'd like to see them modified so the rest of the document can be used.

While it's off the state Web site, it was still on the Denver public school district's Web site late today

DOBBS: Congressman Tancredo said -- I mean, I just -- this leaves one almost speechless. How in the world does Governor Owens justify both his imprimatur on that product in permitting a state government department to produce it?

WIAN: Well, he says that he thought it was a guide for legal immigrants. It's, frankly, very tough to square with the reading of the guide, even in Spanish. It's very clear that a lot of the information in it is directed at illegal aliens, information that legal immigrants would probably have no use for.

DOBBS: Casey, thank you very much.

Giving illegal immigrants the right to stay in the country because they have an "anchor baby", is not respectful of our legal immigration process, imo.

My nurse friend who lived in Yuma, AZ tells me it's epidemic there.

in border towns like Yuma, often the family lives on the Mexican side, comes up to Yuma to give birth, then goes back to Mexico and receives food stamps, WIC, etc. at a PO Box on the US side. The child, when grown, can then work without problems in the US. I was listening to a local Hispanic radio program (in Spanish) and an immigrant lawyer was telling the audience to make sure to get a US passport for such children (in addition to the birth certificate and the Social Security #), because Homeland Security may not believe that the child is a US citizen, since he doesn't speak any English and has never lived in the US. Homeland Security may also believe that the birth certificate and SSN are bought or falsified.

(snip)
Most importantly, no business in America will have an excuse for hiring illegals.

Right now , the job of trying to figure out if the ID shown by a new employee is a counterfeit or not is just daunting. That is sometimes a legitimate excuse and sometimes a smokescreen for why so many businesses have illegal aliens working for them. But with the new system, businesses merely use existing documents (social security cards and alien identification cards) and existing databases (SSA and BCIS databases) to verify employment eligibility. An employer using the system simply calls an 800 number, provides the name and the Social Security number or the alien ID number, as presented by the new hire, and then he receives either a confirmation indicating that the worker is authorized to work in the US or a tentative non-confirmation if the number and name provided do not match SSA or BCIS data. In the case of a tentative non-confirmation, the new hire has the right to contact SSA or BCIS and try to fix the problem BEFORE the employer may fire the new hire.

But the program is voluntary. The rotten, exploitative, unpatriotic businesses will still tend to keep hire illegal aliens or just not participate in the verification system.
__________________________

So far as I've heard this program is still only *voluntary*...........have you heard otherwise ??

What would these same people say if they woke to a news report telling them that overnight an invading force of that size entered the country.

If Bush was for it they'd be for it. They can't bring themselves to deviate one inch from whatever Bush's policy is at a given moment. Talk show hosts, websites and many in government don't care if the country is invaded, in fact don't care if our identity is lost forever, just as long as Bush is for it that's all it takes.

Been there, done that. As we don't have enough agents to handle total Federal enforcement, Ashcroft gave local authorities the authority (is it legal to put those two words in the same sentence...LOL!) to enforce the immigration law when they find violations. The local authorities are refusing to comply, as I posted above. We need to compel them to comply.

And yes there should be an alternative plan, we need to eliminate the "anchor babies" path to citizenship, we need to make SS cards and DLs are fraud-proof, etc. There are many things that are not on the books right now that would be effective in fighting immigration.

don't care if our identity is lost forever

We don't even have to learn from history on this one. Just take a look at what's going on in Europe today, they left the flood gates wide open to immigration and now their problems are so bad they don't know whether to sh!t or spit nickels.

I spoke to our human resources guy. He said that all they are required to do by law is check that the name and the SS# match. Nothing further. According to him even if the IRS gets income to the same SS# from different parts of the country they don't do anything about it. HR can't even legally ask if they the person is here legally.

Note: There is a Puerto Rican guy here. One day another hispanic from South America asked him what the $242 garnish of wages was for on his check. The PR guy asked him if he had children since most of the time it's for child support. The SA guy said, "M - f'er!!! That SOB". Apparently he bought the SS# from someone and now he has to pay that guy's child support. He can't do anything about it.

What say you, Marine Inspector? Is this merely a problem with local officials not wanting to enforce immigration laws, or is the federal govt. complicit as well??

It's mostly Federal Government.

Local officials have little control and influence. State officials have a little more influence. The best they can do is complain to their State’s Congressmen and hope that person has enough power to get upper Washington management to stop whatever they are complaining about.
