What makes this more difficult than the Cold War, in my view, is the enemy's willingness to die.  That changes the entire dynamic of the conflict, and makes it far more deadly.

But seriously, it was his best SOTU to date, especially because he called up the Mullahs' number. The fact that the Ba'athists, Islamic Fundamentalists, and anti-American socialists are all united against it means it was effective and pointed. It will be remembered for a long while.

Agreed.  It moved me so much that it brought me to tears.  I am so very proud of our President, our troops and our Nation, sometimes I just have to pause for a moment and try to take in the grandeur of it all.  We live in magical, exciting times that will echo through eternity.

It would have been far worse than Clintonism, because our continued failure to deal with terrorists appropriately would have emboldened them.  We would likely have several cities in smoking ruin and with a high radiation count about now.

What frightens me is that he got so close.  Somebody like that should have been laughed off the stage and shouldn't have won more than two states.  It's an unfortunate indication of the great amount of work that still needs to be done to educate people properly about world events and their consequences.

We can be very thankful that the Bush Doctrine embraces preemption, when indicated.

It is unfortunate that the Iranian people are caught in the middle of all this....there's a very large segment of them that is fervently pro-Western and pro-American....it's mainly the doddering old mullahs in undeserved positions of power that are causing all this trouble.

Hopefully the Iranian people will take our President's words to heart and mount an effective resistance to their oppression.   I would be delighted if Iran were to become the next grand, glowing beacon of freedom and democracy, after Iraq.

Yes indeed...without their bombs they are nothing.  I'm reminded of the attitudes of American gangbangers, who say they are violent thugs because they "want respect".  It seems that the militant Islamists want to impose their ideology upon the rest of the world and if anyone dares disagree, they are marked for death.  Not a perfect analogy, but two examples of profoundly unintelligent and utterly misguided groups who have missed some extremely basic concepts in life.  Too bad, we will be happy to accelerate the process of natural selection in both cases.
