White House counsel Alberto Gonzales survived a Democratic wall of opposition on Thursday to win U.S. Senate confirmation as the nation's next attorney general. He will be the first Hispanic-American to hold the post.
In approving Gonzales, the Republican-led Senate rejected Democratic complaints he had helped craft administration policies that contributed to the torture of foreign detainees following the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.
This is what defines cultures, their values. Ours happens to be that society will live within the laws passed by the Congress of these United States.
The fact we have representatives from each State in the Congress , "these United States" is what makes our laws acceptable to us as a nation.
I think this is probably the one thing that bites my ass harder than any other, the Executive Branch decided not to support TITLE 8 - ALIENS AND NATIONALITY - CHAPTER 12 - IMMIGRATION AND NATIONALITY and TITLE 8 - CHAPTER 14 - RESTRICTING WELFARE AND PUBLIC BENEFITS FOR ALIENS without a Vote.

Hey, look who showed up ... a DUmmie! I'll bet they're having a real pity party over there. WWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Looked mighty similar...lol..
now I know why.
Which demcrats voted FOR Gonzales?
Anyone know?
Lieberman?
Feinstein?
Who care what his brother thinks?
?????
Any list that includes the two phuck-ups from my native state (Massachusetts), KKK Byrd and the Wicked Witch of the West, ol' Bouncing Babsy Boxer, can't be all good.
From yahoo.com:
"Eight Democrats voted for Ashcroft, while six voted for Gonzales: Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut, Ken Salazar of Colorado, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, Bill Nelson of Florida, Ben Nelson of Nebraska and Mark Pryor of Arkansas."

Well, the AG can't "ok" the passage of any bill. But know this: With the members of the House of Representatives we have now, any gun control bill thrown their way will be Dead-on-Arrival.
These same names are against anything good for America.
Huh?
Mengele?
Not even funny nor close to Mengele's many modes of TORTURE.
It sure would be nice if those people who voted no had just signed their own political "death warrants" by doing so.
Thanks.
A couple of surprises there.
Exactly, plus about two dozen others...
Good to see Ben Nelson in the 'aye' column, but I'm still voting against him next year :-)
Viva La Raza!
This is the same bottom feeders that rejected Condi Rice. I hope they have good ground wire because they have set themselves up as lightning rods.
Sorry, meant to respond to lodwick's "Mengele" comment.
Bayh (D-IN), having safely been re-elected, must be tacking left in hopes of challeging Queen Hillary for the 2008 nod and, if he gets on the ticket, will point to his credentials as a moderate red-state senator as a reason why the sheeple should fall in line. It is time for W to drop in on Indiana and have his constituents take him to the woodshed.
Ashcroft was not only hated by the left, but many here on FR. They ate up the stories about him being afraid of cats and him personally ordering the covering of nude statues up like a starving man on a ham sandwich.
