It seems Jewish power versus Jewish persecution have run cycles in Russia since Tsarist times.

Did not the persecution against Jews really take off in modern times when Uncle Joe identified them as Trotsky supporters after he grabbed power following Lenin's death. Prior to that weren't Jews somewhat prominant amongst the Mensheviks and then Bolshies?

And at least in the western part of post WWII European Iron Curtain area did not surviving Jews regain power in those communist regimes like Hungary for example where they got some getback till the next purge.

Nearly all of the Russsian oligarchs are Jewish (identity-wise) and from what I am told by Russians I know (some of whom are Jewish too), there is considerable resentment there over the oligarchs and a desire for some house cleaning by Putin.

The Ukraine is the lands of the former Khazaria is it not? Small wonder it's the ground zero of Jewish issues in that part of the world. Someone here the other day said western Ukraine was ethnic Polish and that eastern was Russian.

Did Stalin loathe most Jews because he was Georgian and rather Cossack-like or because he feared them and their soon dead leader Trotsky? (or both)

Was Beria Jewish at all? I know Lenin was 1/4 I think.

Interesting stuff. The other poster who said that anti-Jewish sentiment is high in France is right and a lot of it is coming from the Moon Rock Nazis power.

In part. Stalin also tied to send all Jews to Siberia, but died before the "Doctor's Plot" could lead to mass murder.

While many Communists were of Jewish descent, they did not act in the interest of JEws. Communism has been anti-Jewish since Marx called for society to be freed from Judaism.

About 1/3 are Jewish.

Khazaria included much of the Eastern Ukraine, Southern Russia, and parts of Kazakhstan. However, the ethnicities in the area have nothing to do with an empire destroyed 1000 years ago. The only group claiming to be descendants of Khazars are the Karaylar (Turkic Karaite Jews) and Krimchaks (Turkic Orthodox Jews in the Crimea). There are a few thousand Karaylar/Karaim and almost no Krimchaks. Those that survived the Nazis were largely killed when they were rounded up by Stalin and sent off to Siberia with other Crimean Tatars.
There are a few Russian Jews with names like Kaganovich that are clearely of Khazar descent.
At any rate, one could argue that the Russians have organized themselves in opposition to Jews since Sviatoslav. Pick up the Chronicle of the Rus.

Levanti Beria was part Jewish. Ivan Ulionov was 1/8th Jewish and 1/4th Tatar. He was also a member of the lower nobility.

True, many minorities were in charge of the communist party at different times. At first it was primarly Jews, Latvians and Poles with a sprinkling of others, to include Russians. After Lenin's death and the succession fight, it became Georgians and Ukrainians with a sprinkling of Ossessions. The others were of course purged. Then after Stalin, it became Ukrainians and Ossessions with the Russians slowly gaining in influence. This culminated in Gorbachov who dismantled the system, granted with a major push by Yeltsin and the first Ukrainian president (his name escapes me) off the cliff.
