My dad served on the USS Essex CV-9 "The Oldest and the Boldest" in the early 1960s and participated in the Cuban blockade.


My dad was a Boilerman on it in the 60's.

Read to the end of the article that was excerpted above. The CV-9 you (bd476) posted about was decommissioned in 1969 and scrapped in 1975. The current Essex was commissioned in 1992.
