I believe it will. That medal is something they can always turn to when they need courage and strength, or just to feel proud and loved.

Great Dose to get use to an early start Gretchen. I believe I'm going to be able to watch the SOTU after all.
I was wondering if VP Cheney was going to be present tonight or in an undisclosed location. From the looks at the teleprompter, he'll be there.

The First Lady has said one of her main advocacy efforts in this 2nd term is to focus more attention on the needs of boys. She's said that, for too long, our schools and social services have focused almost exclusively on the needs of girls. (She didn't say it, but I'll finish the thought for her -- ever since the feminist movement of the 1960's.) I agree with her. I'm particularly disgusted that so many of our young boys are loaded up with ritalin, prozac and other such drugs, in my opinion largely because parents, schools and social services don't have the patience for natural boy behavior these days.
Anyway, here's a 10-year-old kid who's dad was a hero, and who is now trying to do something very old-fashioned: be the man of the house. I am so very glad that this medal was approved by Congress and the President, because in his own way, the boy is a hero also. As you said, maybe the medal will give him something to turn to.

When our Dubya finally retires, and the scope of what he accomplished begins to sink in, he will certainly be seen as deserving a comparable place in history to those on Rushmore.

Well put, and I agree with the slanted focus that the feminist movement has put onto young girls without considering young boys needs. If what the activists are after is equality, then they should take a long look in the mirror.

I was wondering if VP Cheney was going to be present tonight or in an undisclosed location He'll be there in the seat behind the President reserved for the President of the Senate; right next to the seat reserved for the Speaker of the House. (Good night to be a Republican!!)

Exactly, and to think his 2nd term has just begun. I believe the Iraqis are going to start turning against the terrorists in large numbers after seeing what they can accomplish. President Bush will long be remembered as the man who brought peace to the middle east (something I might add that Clinton attempted but failed to do).

Clinton was too busy worrying about his legacy and trying to force the Israelis into a Neville Chamberlain-like false peace. Shallow, empty, hedonistic men like Clinton always wind up being historical afterthoughts.

Did I hear right that the Republican congress members in the audience were going to have "purple fingers" in support of the Iraqi election and to support the President?

If only that were true. It was reported today that he is going to "officially" head the tsunami effort on behalf on the UN. I can see where he's going with this but it won't work, China is next in line to appoint a representative to replace Annan as head of the UN.
