President Bush will deliver his annual State of the Union address before a joint session of Congress tonight at 6 PM Pacific time. A live webcast is available here. According to CNN, quoting a top aide, "President Bush will present 'a strategy for success' in Iraq and outline details of his Social Security proposal."
Judge Michael Chertoff testified during his nomination to become Homeland Security Secretary before the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
President Bush plans a late February trip to Europe to seek additional assistance from the European Union and NATO in Iraq, and to meet with leaders, including German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.
There will be lots of photos tonight during and after the president's speech.
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island!
Well.. I forgive you..barely. ;)
"After reading her remarks, I have even more appreciation for the quality of the husband she lost. Extremely positive, forward-looking lady. He left an 18-year-old daughter and a son about 10 or 11 (current ages)."
With a family like this, these kids will probably do okay without him, but the relationship will be forever missed. My prayers for them and may they ever hold their heads high for their father! What a fine wife and mother!

Excerpt, regarding Sgt. Norwood whose parents were honored at the SOTU:
Quote:
Family and friends described Sgt. Norwood as a "rambunctious teenager," who played trumpet in marching band and jazz band at Pflugerville High. He was known for his "hilarious" impression of comic actor Jim Carrey.
From an early age, he had wanted to be a Marine. After enlisting in the Corps, he told his parents he would "place my life in God's hands so that I can concentrate on being the best Marine I can be."
At the time of his death, Sgt. Norwood was serving as part of a combat team operating two armored Humvees with the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, in house-to-house fighting in Fallujah. He was 25 and on his second tour of duty in Iraq when he was killed.
Hi gretchen! I have only seen snippets of the SOTU address on the news tonight (no cable at chez ozbushkin). I was getting all teared up just reading the posts here tonight..Thank you for posting the pix; it really mus'tve been something to witness.
Thank you for letting us know, Gem!
Pausing while being cheered
Leaving the podium after speaking
Being Australian I just couldn't imagine our politicians getting so enthused about our Prime Minister. Except when they want to boo him!
God Bless your wonderful, wise, unwavering President!
Thank you!
I'm watching Ron, jr on with Chrissy saying that hug was a set up and this time I really need the Pepto Bismol.
Is Pelosi richer than TaaReaZza?
***Laura has impeccable instincts. I noticed her staying deliberately out of the moment with the two other women. Can you imagine how Hillary would have knocked the two of them apart to get in the middle?***
>>>We were sharing a brain at that moment. I thought exactly the same things.>>>
I noticed it, too. Laura was there to serve, not to steal the glory. Hitlery would have been "seig heiling" all over the place.
Thanks Gretchen! I had found it, C-span showed it immediately right after the rebuttals. The speech was good listening to over the radio, but it was even better watching on tv. Cynthia McKinney made me sick though...when President Bush introduced the Iraqi woman and everyone stood and clapped she stayed seated and had her arms folded, frowning. NOw of all people, how could she not cheer someone receiving their independence and freedom? I just do not understand these people, these dems.
I hope someday you'll understand that.
Laura turned toward them and stayed out of the moment, as you said.
What a gracious, lovely lady.
And the President (although clearly trying to gain his composure), allowed the applause to continue, and just backed away to let the moment continue.
SO much respect for these two. SO MUCH RESPECT!
I'm not sure of the details but they were discussing it on Fox News last night and eluded to the fact that if Clinton's motives were to edge his way into Annan's position, it wouldn't be possible unless China gave up their next in line position. I think all the nations involved take turns in appointing someone. I'll see if I can find some research on the subject.
Hi, oz, you can also view the speech at the whitehouse website, they have it up now, with more photos ...

I heard it on the radio, so I am going over there to see the whole thing.
I never forget that everything our W has done, everything we love him for, he could have never done without John Howard and Tony Blair standing rock solid with him, and our other steadfast allies (Japan and Poland come to mind.) Thank you, oz.
God bless Mike, and Eric, and every person reading this who was part of that wonderful scene in the House Chambers last night.
LET FREEDOM REIGN!
How is Jonathan, BTW? Any chance of his being deployed, or will he be here for the forseeable future?
RE: End of the Dem Party
***If we did not have a very strong leader, as George W. Bush is***
If he wasn't such a strong leader, didn't have such strong convitions, didn't get his strength and leadership from Above, he would have been disheartened by all the negativity and criticism from them, and would have caved in many times.
Thank God for his leadership! As well as freeing millions of people, he's bringing down this destructive force in our country that has been strong for so many years.
