President Bush will deliver his annual State of the Union address before a joint session of Congress tonight at 6 PM Pacific time. A live webcast is available here. According to CNN, quoting a top aide, "President Bush will present 'a strategy for success' in Iraq and outline details of his Social Security proposal."
Judge Michael Chertoff testified during his nomination to become Homeland Security Secretary before the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
President Bush plans a late February trip to Europe to seek additional assistance from the European Union and NATO in Iraq, and to meet with leaders, including German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.
There will be lots of photos tonight during and after the president's speech.
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island!
Sweet dreams!
I do believe that one day-- it may take 50 years or more-- but one day President Bush will been seen as one of the greatest Presidents ever- by everyone!
That's gotta be one of the pictures of the year, of them embracing.
I can't tell you how moving it was! I'm sure many share our sentiments . . .
And Laura could have joined in on the hug, but she just let those two women have the spotlight.
I loved the speech too . . . the critics are slicing and dicing . . . JERKS.
But I'm going to bask in the glow of that wonderful speech.
:-)
Was Kennedy there? I didn't get one glimpse of him.
My husband and I were sitting here sobbing! Crying, praying, thanking GOD for this President!
What a moment! What a man! What a GIFT from the LORD!
Check out juan William's (FOX) tie.
Talk about a girly man.
Hey man! I was just about to say that I've said it before and I don't mind saying it again-- this Bush Buck got a little misty with the Iraqi woman, and just lost it when she hugged the marine's mom.
Did the mother give the Iraqi lady her son's dog tags?????
I didn't know that. My sister thought they just kept three.
Do you (or Mike--anyone else for that matter!) know why the military men in the front row hardly applauded, and rarely stood up thru the whole speech, even when everyone else did?
I think Ted Kennedy, OBL, Al-Zacqari, and Mullah Omar, went out for a drink and discuss a new strategy :-)
The kiss was perfect!
I accomplished the popcorn, a sode, the remote control and the 'puter! Gotta sign off, night everybody.
Prairie
Yes she did, that was a moment I will never forget for as long as I live
Good evening...
I think it's because they are not supposed to show too much reaction when dealing with politics.
They applauded respectfully in matters dealing with the military but I noticed there was not much reaction to domestic issues.
YES! She did! What an amazing moment!!
(Mr OH was crying too, so you Bush Bucks were standing together there. :o)
Do either of you know when C-span will reair the speech? I had to listen on the radio, driving home from B'ham and could not watch. The speech was wonderful but I would love to watch, especially the crybaby part and the mother and the Iraqi woman. Thanks.
They usually re-air the speeches around 5-6 am EST (if you're up that early, that's when I get out of bed and turn on the tube).
Groan....do you think I'll have to wait that long? Now I'm the cry baby.:(
Note to self...get tivo!
"how could he top those events?" "But you know what? I think he did, with this speech."
I truly think this was his best speech so far at least as far as the delivery. He was relaxed and some of his former speech patterns which he has been criticized for in former speeches were completely gone in this one I felt. Just love it-----and him, of course.
