Hell, I thought 1700fps was good.

That looks like a great gun. Unfortunately, you only get to shoot it once because you will be blinded by the muzzle flash from the 1.75" barrel.

But if you can use rifle powder reloads you can turn it into a slower pistol bullet accompanied by a good flamethrower imitation. Perfect for crispy muggers.

It makes really big #$%^ing holes in things. That's sufficient explanation for me ...

And me.

I bet my hubby and sons would like to take a crack at firing it.

If you feel you need that much knock down, carry a rifle.

But a rifle won't fit in my pocket.

A friend of mine carries a .480 for bear protection- I fired it once- think I'll stick with the 12ga.

Perfect for crispy muggers.

Ya gotta be careful with that.

I test-fired one of them "Flame Thrower" shot-gun shells a while back.

Over my pasture.

In late September.

Took all afternoon and about half of a stock pond pumped out to put the damn grass out.

Throwed a flame nearly 300 feet.

Scared the hell out of me.

One of my hubby's favorite's is his 30.06, he swears by it. I'll stick with my 12 ga. I like the intimidation factor it holds as well, visually speaking that is.

I was told recently that there are factory loads for 12 ga. 3" mag. at 2300fps- anybody know about that?

A .458 Lott, which is a stretched .458 winchester Magnum fires a 1.1 oz (500gr) slug at 2300fps for 5873 foot pounds of energy.

A normal 12 ga 1.25 oz load moves about 1500fps for about 1600 foot pounds of energy.

To get 2300 out of a 12 ga you would have to more than double the energy and quadruple the chamber pressure, or use a sabot and a payload so light it would be useless, maybe 1/4 oz.

I've never shot the .480 Ruger. Judging from what you wrote, I'd better put on gloves if I shoot one!

He states the .480 Ruger is even worse that the .454 Casull (similar to the contrast between a .38 special vs. a .357 magnum).

Not really. The .480 is a lowered version of the .475 Linebaugh round. The .475 is more powerful than the 454 but the .480 was designed for a lower recoil round than the .454 with the same energy shooting bigger bullets.

So does a 105 howitzer, only it's just a little more difficult to carry.

That thing will bring blood from both ends. I'll stick with my rugers in 45LC and heavy hand loads. If i was hunting Elk, Moose or Brown bears I'd consider it.

Crikey! That's a whale of a pistol!

I recently built an ITM Arms Co. Mk 99 pistol: gas-operated, 7.62x39mm, 12.5" barrel, weighs approximately 6 pounds (basically a 100% legal version of the Hungarian AMD-65). Magazine capacity varies from 5-100 rounds (your option in free States ;>). Kind of a poor-man's semi-auto TC Contender with an attitude. I guess I got it put together correctly, because it 'runs like a top' - now I just have to figure out what to do with it. Ain't [post-ban] life grand?

;>)

I haven't seen anything I can't stop with Buffalo Bore loads in a .45 Vaquero, but big boomers are fun.

Then how come you're always saying 'size doesn't matter'?

Winchester has a Platinum Tip slug @ 1900. Looks like a rifle bullet. It carries Energy way out, much better than the usual shotgun slug.
Use in a rifled barrel.
