Hate talk pushes the political debate astray
St. Louis Post Dispatch ^ | 02/02/2005 | Bill McClellan

[ snip ]

Well, three things happened last week. (Don't things always happen in threes?)

First, I heard Rush Limbaugh say, "Liberals hate America." That was my fault for listening, you might be thinking, and you're right. People often call to complain about Limbaugh. "He just said that liberals like it when Americans are killed in Iraq," a caller recently said, and I answered, as I always do, "Don't listen."

If you were Jewish and the station promoted hatred of Jews, would you listen? Would you patronize their advertisers? But I do not always take my own advice [ snip ]

Second thing. At home, I checked the mail, there was the fund-raising letter, and it was partially about all of the good things President Bush has done - fine and appropriate - but it was also an attack on liberals. It said that liberals want to undermine the president's plan for a better, safer, more prosperous America. It also stated that liberals "will stop at nothing" to undermine this agenda. And so on.

The third thing came in the mail the next day - a fund-raising letter from the Heritage Foundation. The letter posed this question: Do you think liberals are a threat to America? The correct answer was yes. Liberal influence can be seen everywhere. "Cheating is rampant in schools and colleges, and corporate scandals, political corruption, and election fraud show that it's widespread at the highest levels of society." This is all liberal doing?

I wondered: What if George W. Bush had volunteered for Vietnam and John Kerry had pulled strings to get into a gold-plated Guard unit? What if Limbaugh had served? What if Tim McVeigh had been a left-wing nut instead of a right-wing nut?

.....megadittos and best wishes.

I guess grandstanding at the electoral vote count, filibustering any judicial appointment, undermining our military, and filing bogus election lawsuits in Ohio are ordinary patriotic, America loving activities. - sarcasm

"He just said that liberals like it when Americans are killed in Iraq," a caller recently said, and I answered, as I always do, "Don't listen."

Liberals do like when Americans are killed in Iraq. They openly wish for it on liberal chat sites because they see it as a way to defeat Bush.

It said that liberals want to undermine the president's plan for a better, safer, more prosperous America. It also stated that liberals "will stop at nothing" to undermine this agenda. And so on.

100% accurate.

Liberal influence can be seen everywhere. "Cheating is rampant in schools and colleges, and corporate scandals, political corruption, and election fraud show that it's widespread at the highest levels of society." This is all liberal doing?

Yes.

What if George W. Bush had volunteered for Vietnam

He did.

It's one thing to say that your opponents' plans would hurt the country, but when you question your opponents' patriotism, when you suggest that they wish ill on the country, I think the debate has gone astray. Liberals wish ill on America?

Liberals have talked of leaving the country solely because Bush won. Some have even set up seminars on how to emigrate to Canada for those interested. And we shouldn’t question their patriotism?

And liberals do wish ill upon America. Just go read any of the liberal chat sites. They are hoping for our defeat in Iraq and call the terrorists “freedom fighters” and “minutemen.” If that is not wishing ill upon America I do not know what is.

Isn't it funny how Bill McClellan misses another little hateful moment :

Howard Dean : I hate Republicans.

http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2005/1/30/104654.shtml

In other words Bill McClellan whines about "hate" which (in the case of the RNC letter) simply seems levels valid criticism at the Dems (criticism is "hate now?!?).

But when the (almost certain) next big honcho of the left. Howard Dean, EXPLCITLY says he HATES Republicans, then it misses Bill McClellan's radar.

How convenient and hypocritical of Bill McClellan.

Haward Dean says he "hates" Republicans, Christians were vilified by the liberal pundits after the election -- and the right is supposed to be the purveyors of hate?

Liberals are not appropriate leaders for this nation, PERIOD.

Sorry, Bill McLellan, or whatever your name is...and get used to NOT seeing them in power. They're yesterday's news, just like the influence of newspapers. Oh, you WORK for a newspaper? I rest my case.

Maybe Bill is upset because of the buyout of his newspaper. As a liberal, which is obvious to anyone, why would the Heritage Foundation, among others, be sending him fund raising literature.

This guy is an idiot. Its clear that liberals hate America. All you have to do is listen to their speech and deduce that fact. Why just the other day Dean came and said "I hate Republicans". No, Dean did not say he hated the terrorists, etc. He said he hated fellow Americans.

Kerry volunteered after trying to get a deferment and then he volunteered to enter the NAVY where, he thought, he would see little action. He was also given a less than honorable discharge which he is hiding (because he wont sign standard form 180) and made false claims of having won an award(s); the silver star with Combat V.

in the column he said that he may have received the letter because he gets FORBES mag. I chopped up his column a bit to get it to fit as an "excerpted article" (300 words or less)

click the source to read the entire column

This is my reply to Mr. McClellans e-mail address

Dear Bill,

If you want to see an example of hate talk, please go to the democrat underground website. We are also tired of being called "digital brown shirts" by Al Gore, Nazis by Ted Turner, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Ted Kennedy and Charles Rangel. We are also tired of listening to unhinged college professors like Ward Churchill tell us that the innocent victims of 9/11 deserved to die in the World Trade Center bombings. Sincerely
