Mr. BROWNBACK. Mr. President, tomorrow the Senate will resume consideration of the nomination of Alberto Gonzales to be Attorney General. A number of colleagues spoke on this nomination today, and we expect a full day of debate tomorrow as well. Under the agreement, we will alternate debate in 1-hour blocks throughout the day. Again, I encourage those Members who wish to speak on the Gonzales nomination to contact the chairman and ranking member of the Judiciary Committee as soon as possible.

I further ask that following the prayer and pledge, the morning hour be deemed expired, the Journal of proceedings be approved to date, the time for the two leaders be reserved, and at 9:30 a.m. the Senate proceed to executive session and resume consideration of the nomination of Alberto Gonzales to be Attorney General, as provided under the previous order; provided that at 2:30 p.m. Senator Byrd be recognized for up to 1 hour.
As long as he says it in both English and Spanish, I have no problem with it.
I was on a leftie site yesterday and read a post where someone was countering another post about murder that said .. murders kill people, they don't execute them
I'm still trying to figure that thinking and the difference
Durbin's reading from his Moveon.Org talking points.
"He just made history as the first Hispanic to speak to the senate house in Spanish! "
Great. What a triumph!! A potential U.S. govrnmental official speaking in Congress to American voters in a language other than English. This is as nice as those Quebecois and their French.
Gonzales is a ringer. Mark my words.
I don't have access to C-span 3 at where I am now...Is anyone watching the Chertoff hearing..is there a thread?
The problem with Durbin's presentation, besides the fact that it is inane, is that it doesn't have anything to do with Gonzales.
Rap Music.......Now THAT'S TORTURE!!!
I hope not.
Two Bushes are a forest and I don't want anymore - ever.
America is turning into a plutocracy.
I want the next (R) politician to come to floor with a 65" flat screen TV, say nothing but "This is what we are up against." and simply play all the beheading videos.
While I want English to be the national language, I don't have a problem w him throwing in a little espanol and going directly to the Hispanics, especially since the Dims have decided to give their rebuttal to the SOTU in Spanish and English - he just got a one up on them
That is a really great idea. We could get a look at some real cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment.
Take a valium for heaven's sake! You are sounding more and more like a RAT!
Thanks Mo..I am not believing Dick(torture)Durbin..Torture, torture torture.
I've noticed.
I would be passed out drunk on the floor if this was a drinking game ... LOL
He says "torture" in every sentence at least once .. in some cases 3 times
I'm hardly a rat, and I don't need a valium. Perhaps you need some caffeine. You seem too apathetic.
Bush has done a good job on the war on terror. He has done a good job with taxes.
His border policies stink. He has spent government money like a liberal. He's trying to palm off on us this ringer Gonzales as though he is something great. Gonzales is no Ashcroft, no Clarence Thomas, no Condi Rice, no Rehnquist, no Scalia. He's a fifth columnist who will support anti-gun legislation, pro-choice legislation, affirmative action legislation and oppose any tightening up of the borders against illegal aliens. He support La Raza's agenda - he probably helped draft it.
Gonzales makes as much sense as Tom Kean, Chrissie Whitman, Colin Powell and Norman Minetta.
Oh, no! One full hour of Sheets Byrd today..
