PROGRAM -- (Senate - February 01, 2005)

Mr. BROWNBACK. Mr. President, tomorrow the Senate will resume consideration of the nomination of Alberto Gonzales to be Attorney General. A number of colleagues spoke on this nomination today, and we expect a full day of debate tomorrow as well. Under the agreement, we will alternate debate in 1-hour blocks throughout the day. Again, I encourage those Members who wish to speak on the Gonzales nomination to contact the chairman and ranking member of the Judiciary Committee as soon as possible.

ORDERS FOR WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 2005 -- (Senate - February 01, 2005) Mr. BROWNBACK. Mr. President, I ask unanimous consent that when the Senate completes its business today, it adjourn until 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, February 2. I further ask that following the prayer and pledge, the morning hour be deemed expired, the Journal of proceedings be approved to date, the time for the two leaders be reserved, and at 9:30 a.m. the Senate proceed to executive session and resume consideration of the nomination of Alberto Gonzales to be Attorney General, as provided under the previous order; provided that at 2:30 p.m. Senator Byrd be recognized for up to 1 hour.

The point I was making is that the AWB can go through Congress and potentially pass and become law of the land again.

At theis point, the gun grabbers ain't got 60 votes in the Senate. The bill wouldn't even make it out alive in the House.

No offense, pal; but I myself don't want the likes of you living next door to me with an Uzi.

I've always respected your contributions to this forum and fail to see why you are being hostile. Why do you not want me to enjoy my Second Amendment rights?

Can't hurt..BTW. I always thought the ultimate prank would be to somehow bribe one of Sheet's aides to substitute Mao's little red book for the Constitution in his pocket..can't you see Byrd taking it out and waving it around the Senate chamber?

And JUST IN CASE that might ever happen again, you're against Gonzales?

A GOP Congress "might" submit a new bill (because the old one is D-E-A-D)? Is that what you're saying?

Being vigilant is one thing; expecting the worst 24/7 is quite another.

We could do the over-under on how many minutes pass until Sheets attempts to pull the Constitution out of his pocket.

I'll start it off - I say 12 minutes in from the moment he hits the podium.

What would be really hilarious is if some wag surreptitiously replaced the Constitution with a copy of a girlie mag or something.

I'm not denying you your Second Amendment rights; why are you denying me MY rights to live in a safe neighborhood by supporting unlimited access to guns that nobody needs for hunting?

The Second Amendment has zero, zilch, nada, nothing whatsoever to do with hunting.

I heard that..cool..you know, all of us here correctly get riled at the comments dems are making in these debates..though we often forget that wild rhetoric is not limited to one side of the aisle. MY personal all time favorite quote, from the senate ..occured during the debate over FDR's Lend-Lease Bill..Sen William Borah..(R, Idaho) thundered that not only would it draw America in to the European conflict, but that it would "plow under every fourth American boy..

So you are now claiming you need an Uzi to protect yourself from your neighbors?

Are you a drug dealer?

Sessions is the voice of reason. He knows what it is to be under confirmation fire.

Rats. I hoped Sessions was going to call DiFi's statement ludicrous. He settled for odd.
