This morning in Alabama, Conspiracy Guy did not see his shadow and went back into his office searching for whiskey.

comfort food and Bill Murray making changes in his life. Today, at 7 PM, it is 6:00 in the morning and its GROUNDHOG DAY. National Review is finally catching up to my wife and I. This movie comes out of our video library every Feb 2nd. Have a happy day, change something for the better.

Punsxutawney Phil being the REAL deal,
the prognosticator of pronostigators, wouldn't you know there are pretenders:
****
Wiarton Willie - Wiarton, Ontario General
Beauregard Lee - Atlanta, Georgia
Jimmy Sun Prairie, Wisconsin
Tennessee Groundhog - Silver Point, Tennessee
Dunkirk Dave - Dunkirk, NY
But none can carry Phil's bag of nuts.

Happy Groundhog's Day!
Phillip the Weather Groundhog
Tune = Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer
© 1991 by Don Halley
You know Bambi and Lassie and Goofy and Winnie
Smokey and Porky and Mickey and Minnie
But do you recall the most famous mammal of all...
Phillip the weather groundhog has a very chilly task
And if you ever watch him, be sure to wear your ski mask
All of the other groundhogs stay inside their cubbyholes
They never help poor Phillip look for any shadows
On the second of this month, Phillip comes to say
"Winter with your arctic blasts, won't you go away at last"
But if he sees his shadow, then we know that it will be
Six weeks or maybe more, till the winter's history

Grandma Got Hung Over With The Groundhog
Tune = Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer Grandma Got Hung Over With The Groundhog
© 2003 by Don Halley
Chorus: Grandma got hung over with the groundhog
Celebrating Eve of Groundhog Day
You can say that you did see your shadow
But as for Phil and Grandma, they can't say
They'd been drinking only root beer
And were having quite a ball
But the trouble all began when
Someone spiked the punch with alcohol
Grandma said "This is quite tasty.
You should really try some, Phil."
Oh but little did they know that
Both of them would soon become quite ill (Chorus)
It was such a disappointment
The next day it has been said
While the crowd was all there waiting
Poor old Phil could not get out of bed (Chorus)

The Ballad of Punxsutawney Phil
Tune = The Ballad of Jed Clampett (The Beverly Hillbillies theme)
© 1988 by Don Halley
Come and listen to a story 'bout a groundhog, Phil
He sleeps throughout the winter to escape the bitter chill
And then one day on February Two
He's up from the ground, and here's what he will do
Open his eyes - Look around - Prognosticate
Well the next thing y'know, ol' Phil's a media star
Camera crews and newsmen come from near and far
To Punxsutawney town in the middle of PA
To determine whether winter will go or will it stay
Six more weeks - Maybe longer - In Minnesota
A shadow means a longer nap for Phil and all his kin
They begin to huddle up and start a new sleep-in
But you and me we just can't sleep throughout the winter here
So have a heapin' hopin' the shadow won't appear

Easily the stupidest media "non event" in the history of the planet.
Well, the second stupidest.
I momentarily forgot about "Earth Day."

You have to get sober to get a hangover. Fear of hangovers has kept my BAC at .07 minimum for years.

Due to this event I am embarrassed for my children that they were born in PA! They look like a bunch of drunks not going to work today.

Apparently this is predetermined before he 'comes out' to check for his shadow. I have no idea why we still do this stupid thing but here it is.
