US GI hostage story and photo faked; MSM falls for it--again

Looks like this was a fake, now that we've seen the photo, and kudos are due to A Small Victory, Wizbang and Free Republic for calling it.

It looks like this was a GI Joe-type doll on sale on the internet. Note the face, plus the gun and the fact that you don't see anyone's hands in the photo.

In addition, the Pentagon has verified that no soldiers are missing presently.

Score another one for the new media, as the MSM gets scammed again.

I heard CBS radio news making a big deal out of this story at 1pm eastern -- they thought it was real, and were delighted to report the bad news.

They mentioned it on our local PBS news this evening...Oklahoma News Report. Said there was a photo out but that it couldn't be verified. Not one mention of it being fake.

In a related story: The toy maker "Mattel" has announced that the Photo in question is that of their "Action Hero" AKA "Cody" Dan Rather stands behind his story and said that the photo might be fake but the story is 100% accurate, and the real question that should be answered is how George W. Bush allowed this to happen.

The hoaxter is probably an American(s) who emailed the set up picture alng with the note to the Iraqis and they ran with it?

The Arabs would probably not be aware of Americana like GI Joe - it is an expensive action figure not found in that part of the world???

An Iraqi/Arab would be more likely to use photoshop.
