Thanks for posting this.
It is worse than I thought it would be.
I'd heard that he claimed to be a Viet Nam vet, but hadn't heard that he claimed to be a Ranger. I work at Ft. Benning, that'll be fairly easy to dig up from the Ranger Training Brigade out at Harmony Church.
No, I'm not offended and I'm sorry if my initial comment seems churlish. I guess this guy just puts me in a foul mood -- but I shouldn't take it out on you or any of my freeper friends.
Your Bosnia photos are very good -- I've never been there (or anywhere else outside of CONUS on a military deployment -- just tourism). I hope to get my turn in the sandbox soon.
Any news on the status of the Board of Regent's meeting on his continued employment?
Found this on AIM's website at http://www.aimovement.org/moipr/churchill05.html :
Ward Churchill was scheduled to speak at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York on February 3, 2005. His appearance was canceled by the college after he caused a public furor over his loathsome remarks about the 9-11 tragedy in New York. AIM's Grand Governing Council has been dealing with Churchill's hateful attitude and rip-off of Indian people for years.
The American Indian Movement Grand Governing Council representing the National and International leadership of the American Indian Movement once again is vehemently and emphatically repudiating and condemning the outrageous statements made by academic literary and Indian fraud, Ward Churchill in relationship to the 9-11 tragedy in New York City that claimed thousands of innocent peoples lives.
Churchills statement that these people deserved what happened to them, and calling them little Eichmans, comparing them to Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichman, who implemented Adolf Hitlers plan to exterminate European Jews and others, should be condemned by all.
The sorry part of this is Ward Churchill has fraudulently represented himself as an Indian, and a member of the American Indian Movement, a situation that has lifted him into the position of a lecturer on Indian activism. He has used the American Indian Movements chapter in Denver to attack the leadership of the official American Indian Movement with his misinformation and propaganda campaigns.
Ward Churchill has been masquerading as an Indian for years behind his dark glasses and beaded headband. He waves around an honorary membership card that at one time was issued to anyone by the Keetoowah Tribe of Oklahoma. Former President Bill Clinton and many others received these cards, but these cards do not qualify the holder a member of any tribe. He has deceitfully and treacherously fooled innocent and naïve Indian community members in Denver, Colorado, as well as many other people worldwide. Churchill does not represent, nor does he speak on behalf of the American Indian Movement.
New Yorks Hamilton College Kirklands Project should be aware that in their search for truth and justice, the idea that they have hired a fraud to speak on Indian activism is in itself a betrayal of their goals.
7 years and this is your first post? That must be a record or something.
LOL yeah. Every time I thought I had something good to post, I'd do a search and someone else had already posted it - one time beating me by something like 30 seconds. I've posted a couple thousand comments, but this is my first actual thread posting.
He's truly a nut.I actually had never heard of him until this week and I'm Native American. What is sad is that so many young people appear to look to him as a hero. Sad! Thanks for posting.
No offense meant, none taken.
I made some good friends in CA in Bosnia. Really good people.
Apparently, you're not the only one. AIM isn't a conservative organization by any means, but when even *they* slam the guy... well.....
Article Published: Tuesday, February 01, 2005NEW: Text of Owens' letter on Churchill
Here is the text of Gov. Bill Owens' letter Tuesday on the subject of the controversy surrounding University of Colorado ethnic studies professor Ward Churchill. The letter was sent to the College Republicans at the University of Colorado and its president, Isaiah Lechowit.
February 1, 2005
Dear Friends:
We have come to a teaching moment at the University of Colorado. I applaud every person on the University of Colorado campus who has come to speak out against the indecent, insensitive and inappropriate comments and writings of Ward Churchill.
All decent people, whether Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative, should denounce the views of Ward Churchill. Not only are his writings outrageous and insupportable, they are at odds with the facts of history. The thousands of innocent people - and innocent they were - who were murdered on September 11 were murdered by evil cowards. Indeed, if anyone could possibly be compared to the evildoers of Nazi Germany, it is the terrorists of the 21st century who have an equally repugnant disregard for innocent human life.
No one wants to infringe on Mr. Churchill's right to express himself. But we are not compelled to accept his pro-terrorist views at state taxpayer subsidy nor under the banner of the University of Colorado. Ward Churchill besmirches the University and the excellent teaching, writing and research of its faculty.
Ideas have consequences, and words have meaning. If there is one lesson that we hope that all Coloradans take from this sad case - and especially our students - it is that civility and appropriate conduct are important. Mr. Churchill's views are not simply anti-American. They are at odds with simple decency, and antagonistic to the beliefs and conduct of civilized people around the world. His views are far outside the mainstream of civil discourse and useful academic work.
His resignation as chairman of the Ethnic Studies Department was a good first step. We hope that he will follow this step by resigning his position on the faculty of the University of Colorado.
Sincerely,
Bill Owens
Good on him.
What up, homie? Euclid & Superior here (East Cleveland). Are you Miami, Iroquois, Delaware, Chippewa, Kickapoo, or Erie? I think there are others, I'm just not remembering at the moment.

I'm a little confused as to why the AIM folks consider Churchill to be a Native American fraud. Do they mean he is not ethnically Native American? I've seen a few pictures of him, and he looks like he could be of Native American ancestry.
He might look Indian, but he ain't. He has an honorary membership card, as described in this link: http://www.aimovement.org/moipr/churchill05.html
His "membership" in the Keetoowah tribe is purely honorary. Bill Clinton got an honorary membership in the same tribe.
They mean he's not a member of any tribe, I believe. Most Americans with a least one ancestor in America circa 1850 likely has some Indian, Black, and Hispanic ancestry, but only a few Americans are actually members of an Indian tribe.
This crap is why Savage coined the phrase: 'The Enemy Within'.
Oh, how I would love to meet this lowlife in person. I'd be saying things to his face that would get me banned from FreeRepublic in an instant...
I would be willing to bet that the things I would simply say to him would inspire violence and hatred for me, so intensely, that he would attack me, and I'd be forced to defend myself.
How I wish that it would happen.

The Iraqi youngsters, all of them under 12, died as a predictable in fact, widely predicted result of the 1991 US "surgical" bombing of their country's water purification and sewage facilities, as well as other "infrastructural" targets upon which Iraq's civilian population depends for its very survival.
Over what period of time and according to what authority?
Where are Churchill's footnotes for his controversial fact claims?
