DOUGLAS - Individuals on the Mexican side of the border shot at a pair of U.S. Border Patrol agents on Friday and Monday, according to an agency's Tucson Sector spokeswoman.
The two incidents bring the number of shootings aimed at agents in Cochise County to three since last Wednesday and four since Oct. 1, Andrea Zortman said. All involved agents from the Douglas Station.
"They are definitely a lot more aggressive," Zortman said about assaults against agents.
In the most two recent shooting incidents in the county, a vehicle and material protecting cameras were hit, she said.
Around 6 p.m. Friday, an agent was patrolling near the Douglas International Airport when the agent "heard three distinct shots coming from Mexico," Zortman said.
The agent moved to a secure location as other agents responded to secure the scene, she said, adding, no suspects were encountered.
An examination of the agents' vehicle revealed it had been hit twice, one hitting the rear tire on the driver's side and the other went through the front bumper with the bullet lodging in the motor, Zortman said.
The Monday incident took place about 12:30 a.m. and involved an agent who was patrolling about two miles east of Douglas, near a remote video surveillance site's camera pole, she said.
"The agent heard four shots coming from Mexico," the spokeswoman said.
Again the agent headed for cover as additional agents responded, and again, no suspects were found, she added.
An inspection of the camera system was made and "revealed four bullet holes in the Plexiglas that protects the solar panels of the system," the spokeswoman said. The camera system was undamaged.
Last Wednesday's incident involved a shooting near the Douglas airport and was reported Saturday by the Sierra Vista Herald/Bisbee Daily Review. In that case an agent was fired on and said he heard bullets whiz by his head. The shots came from Mexico.
As agents were looking for the culprits, a vehicle crossed into the United States from Mexico, which apparently as a drug-load truck.
But once agents saw that action, they began a pursuit and the truck went back into Mexico.
Zortman said it is not unusual for drug smugglers to create some kind of diversion.
Since Oct. 1 through Monday, there have been 90 assault incidents against agents in the Tucson Sector, of which 27 have happened in Cochise County, Zortman said.
For all of the previous federal fiscal year there were a total of 118 assaults on agents.
Besides the shootings so far this year, assaults have included attempts to run down agents with vehicles and rocks thrown at agents.
Luckily, no agents have been injured, Zortman said.
But if the assaults continue there is a possibility that Border Patrol people may be injured or killed, she said.
300 Weatherby Mag. not all that bad of a choice either. Never hear the bang.....
Barrett makes some nice model that are designed for just this kind of action.
These are the kind of people W wants to live amoung us legally???
Both weapons have the same distinction. Kill with one end, cripple with the other.
:)
Yep, this is what W wants.
There's no reason to use .22's unless there is a need to be quiet. I love big umph guns! That's a fact.
That area just east of Douglas is flat evil. You can hear gunfire south of the border fence frequently. Considering Mexico's draconian gun control laws, that in itself is a strong indication that the Mexican government has zero control in this vicinity.
Four Blocks to Freedom
There is a 28 year old American named Yvette Martinez who has "disappeared" in Nuevo Loredo along with 27+ other US Citizens in the past few months. After a month of the Mexican law doing nothing and the US law saying "we can do nothing-Mexico runs their own country", her father started investigating by himself, along with some news people. She and her friend were traced to an intersection where they called a friend in the States. They could see the American Flag across the border. Four blocks away.
The Mexican mayor says, "It's safe here!" The police would not help. Finally Yvette's father found her car. It was in a storage lot used by the police. They refuse to talk. The US tells him, it's not their place to question Mexico. I dont see any of the OBL shedding any tears for her heartbroken mother and father because they are hispanic. This is all about dirty money, from the corruption in Mexico, the drugs, the refusal to enforce existing law to the willing worker program.
God helps those who help themselves. Right now we aren't helping anyone except for a select few profiting with all this mess. It's not right and it's sure not American. I live in the mountains away from what many in the city are living through and not 15 miles from here are armed gangs of Illegal Latinos growing weed in the National Forests. Same gangs as Nuevo Loredo. The sheriff cant control it and the state or Federal government will not address it. They hold Mexican citizens hostage to work their fields. Its been going on for YEARS. People are afraid. And yes, we get snippy when someone calls us racist or worse because our lives and communities have been changed for the worse and the powers that be, say -TOUGH! And we thought the enviro-whackos were bad! This isnt what I promised my children.
JB thanks. That changes something I was planning, stops it dead in it's tracks in fact.
No, they only avoid certain types of threads.
Bttt!!! And it's a shame that there are several of them on this forum.
Good decision. That's the same area where that one rancher got his house turned into swiss cheese by a few AK-47s last year.
They've only come to shoot the Border Patrol Agents that Americans refuse to shoot.
Yeah and the Tucson sector chief only lets them carry .38 cal revolvers or 9mm autos but they have to be in the Barney Fife mode no more than 5 rounds
Normally I would have had the nads to call the bots what they are without fear, but you beat me to it in an indirect way.
The posters using "they" need to shoot back; "they" need to do this or do that when referring to TheGovernment need to use the correct word: The President. The buck stops with his hypocrisy.
/truth alert..bot attack incoming
I think they are all patting each other on the back somewhere.
There's *only* been 772 views of this thread, I guess *all* the OBLer's have just missed it ?? /sarcasm

Not only do they approve of illegal aliens, it now seems they approve of them shooting at the border patrol.
Yep, *cheap* labor at any cost, same way most in DC think, also.
