Oh, that's interesting. Because in addition to the "gentle smile" she said he looked "confident".

I'll bet you haven't read his bio. I've seen FReepers say Gonzalez isn't a Federalist Society member. Well, he is. Ashcroft was too. Gonzalez spent 4 years working at Ashcroft's side in the White House.

Gonzales didn't write that memo Plus .. it was done as an opinion of the LAW

I have written any number of legal opinions that had nothing to do with my personal opinion or feelings on the subject. They know this is the task (unless they are completely stupid), and just feel free to lie about it.

I agree; when I saw Linda Deutsch last night, my first thought was "Big time trial."

That said, the rest of them say he's going to jail. :-)

There should be a lexicon of phrases that, if spoken by a politician, would be a capital offense. Among these are:

1)It seems to me
2)At the end of the day
3)I am deeply saddened
4)Soccer (or single or any other adjective) Moms

Please feel free to add.

PROGRAM -- (Senate - January 31, 2005)

[Page: S677] GPO's PDF

---

Mr. McCONNELL. Mr. President, tomorrow, following morning business, the Senate will begin consideration of the nomination of Alberto Gonzales to be Attorney General. There are a number of Senators who wish to speak on this nomination, but it is our hope that we can reach an agreement for a reasonable time for debate and a vote on the Gonzales nomination. We will continue working with our colleagues on the other side of the aisle to lock in a consent agreement on the nomination. I encourage all Members looking for floor time to contact either the chairman or the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee as soon as possible so that we can have orderly debate with respect to the nomination.

I also remind all of our colleagues that the President's State of the Union Address will be on Wednesday evening of this week. Senators are asked to be in the Senate Chamber by 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday in order to proceed as a body to the House Chamber at 8:45 p.m. for the 9 o'clock address.

Not a personal opinion of Gonzales

This is what puzzles me; why don't they understand he was doing his job as presidential counsel?

And IF he had answered their stupid trick questions, they would have lambasted him for his answers. He cannot win.

But, of course, that is the point here, isn't it? They're trying to knock him down now, so they can finish him off if he's nominated for the USSC. This is pure T politics and doesn't have a dang thing to do with "honor" and "truth."

"...

Deutsch has covered some of the most famous trials of our time, including those of Sirhan Sirhan, Charles Manson, Patty Hearst, Exxon Valdez skipper Joseph Hazelwood, William Kennedy Smith, the four police officers accused in the beating of motorist Rodney King, and the Menendez Brothers. She is currently covering the Robert Blake murder case.

Her most notable work has been her coverage of the O.J. Simpson criminal and civil trials, for which she was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. At the end of the criminal trial, the AP honored her with its prestigious Oliver Gramling Award for career long excellence. The Simpson trial brought her face as well as her byline into millions of homes as she was called upon by TV news shows to share her expertise with audiences across the world. She coauthored the AP book, “Verdict: The Chronicle of the O.J. Simpson Trial,” and she also wrote the foreword to “Headline Justice,” a book by her best friend and mentor, legendary reporter Theo Wilson.

Deutsch has also covered two U.S. presidents, Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan, at their Western White Houses and covered two assassination attempts on a third president, Gerald Ford. From Guam, she helped cover the evacuation of Vietnam after the fall of Saigon.

AP named Deutsch a special correspondent in 1992 in recognition of her long and distinguished career with the wire service. The designation of special correspondent is one she shares with only a handful of other active AP writers and one that has been bestowed on just 18 AP reporters in the history of the news service."

Attorney General nominee Alberto Gonzales told the Senate on Tuesday that he supports extending the expired federal assault weapons ban

First sentence of the article, of course, makes no sense.... How can you extend something that already expired?
