Bulleit and his partner, Karl Rusterholtz, were among the first gay couples to line up for marriage licenses in Multnomah County last year. They have been together since meeting at a church potluck more than a decade ago and are the legal guardians of a 16-year-old boy.

I wonder if there will be throngs of cheering fans outside the courtroom at his trial.

"....Atkinson Memorial Church, a Unitarian Universalist congregation..."Given the teachings of this church, who can really say this is "wrong?"

The article isn't clear, but is the 16 year old the victim, or just an innocent bystander?

Sheeeeesh .. let's call the local spa a church if you're gonna call Unitarian Universalist a church.

About 15 years ago I was introduced to a man also from Clackamas County, Oregon. He had come over to my house in Oregon with some other people who I knew. He told me that his hobby was Civil War re-enactment. This interested me because my son, then about 8, had just been to one of these reenactments. We discussed a hobby we had in common at the time: gunpowder manufacture.
Some time later I heard that my friends had discovered that this person was on probation for child sex abuse. I couldn't believe that he had been in my house while my son slept upstairs. I went down to the courthouse and looked up his case. It involved activities he had instigated with two young boys. I called his probabation officer and told her that I didn't feel quite right that this man participated in Civil War reenactments which are often visited by young children, particularly boys, who may look up to the reenacters.
She told me: "Your instincts are right on target." She said that he had been informed that he could not participate in this activity unless the commander of his Civil War unit was informed about his sex offender status.
(BTW I don't remember this guy's name. Maybe it's the same guy although I doubt it.)
