Three months after he lost his presidential bid, Sen. John Kerry has finally agreed to a full release of his military records, after being cornered on the issue Sunday by "Meet the Press" host Tim Russert.
Appearing on the same show last April, Kerry insisted all his military records were already in the public domain, telling Russert, "I've shown them - they're available to you to come and look at."
But in August the Washington Post reported:
"Although Kerry campaign officials insist that they have published Kerry's full military records on their Web site (with the exception of medical records shown briefly to reporters earlier this year), they have not permitted independent access to his original Navy records.
"A Freedom of Information Act request by The Post for Kerry's records produced six pages of information. A spokesman for the Navy Personnel Command, Mike McClellan, said he was not authorized to release the full file, which consists of at least a hundred pages."
On Sunday Kerry attempted to explain the discrepancy, telling Russert, "We put all the records out that I had been sent by the military."
"Then at the last moment, they sent some more stuff, which had some things that werent even relevant to the record. So when we get - Im going to sit down with them and make sure that they are clear and I am clear as to what is in the record and what isnt in the record and well put it out. I have no problem with that."
When Russert pressed Kerry, "Would you sign Form 180?" - authorizing the Pentagon to release of his full file, Kerry at first tried to dodge the question.
But after he was asked about Form 180 for the third time, the top Democrat finally relented, telling the "Meet the Press" host, "Yes, I will."
Kerry then added a bizarre demand of his own, saying that the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth, the group of Vietnam veterans who led the questioning of his military record, should also sign Form 180:
"I'd call on those who have challenged me, let's see their records," he said. "I want to see the records of each of those people who have put up a challenge, because some of them have some serious questions in them, and it hasn't been appropriate."
...I sense another flip-flop in progress...
Russert has a lot of credibility with the MSM. I think he'll have to sign it. I mean, they'll take it personally if he tries to weasel out of it.
Kerry said "Yes, I will"... note that he did not specify the time frame... leaving ample room for a classic Kerry flip
Bingo. They say what he wants them to say. Now.
I am confused too!! I read your post and I can't tell if my head is spinning or it is the bread machine going round and round.
I watched the segment. It was obvious that he only said "Yes. I will." in a desperate attempt to change the subject.
He'll sign when a flying pig brings him the pen.
I watched it too. The "Yes I will" was a throwaway line, uttered quickly and without any conviction, in an effort to bury the issue and move the conversation along to something else. He had been cornered by Russert and just blurted this out to get Russert off his back. The qualifications, stipulations, and evasions will come later, and we will not see the 180, ever.
Lying comes easy to those who make a career living off of rich women.
I'd hate to hang until he does.
He is just lying again and hoping this goes away.
What a total idiot this man is ... what do the records of anyone else have to do with HIM LYING ABOUT HIS records??
This is such a typical democRAT response to getting caught at something ..."Well, I'm not the only one ... every body else did it ..." as though that somehow mitigates their transgressions!
I believe in this instance Jean Francois is telling the truth. Rumor has it that many of his personnel records were lost during his harrowing and heroic trip to Cambodia when his boat was ambushed by a mixed battalion of Viet Cong, Khmer Rouge, Mau Mau, Hell's Angels and Al Quaida extremists. Despite his boat being hit by several 155mm rounds, several tank shells and a tactical nuke he bravely bought his boat and crew home and even returned with a souvenir of the fight-a leather bomber jacket which he owns to this day.
Who cares about Kerry's military record now?...He lost...It probably took him this long to doctor it up and pay everybody off........
Like I said I believe it when I see it
Russert has probably already forgotten he asked the question. And Kerry signing form 180? No way
"So many things leak in Washington, how come Kerry records don't leak?
"
Think memogate. What would happen is that Kerry's records will become irrelevant. It will be the one who leaked them that would get all the attention.
You sure have it right. Then it might be a challenge the Swift Boat bunch just might take him up on because these men have nothing to hide, he has everything to hide.
There was an tiny opening in the JfK MTP interview. Whatif the Swifties all sign the 180's and make a big PR push for Fraud to do the same???
Kerry obviously has a lot to hide. I hope the Swifties release their records. I have a hunch they would make Kerry look even worse. The Swifties didn't bug out like Kerry. They stayed and completed their tours of duty.
"By the strict application of our Constitution, the bastard is in illegal possession of a seat in the Senate.. "
It is an affront to every citizen that all of Congress has not applied Art. III Sec 3 of the Constitution to Kerry the Kommie.
