TAMPA, Fla.- Before she was the severely brain-damaged patient at the center of a legal dispute over whether she should live or die, Terri Schiavo was a young woman who desperately wanted to be thin.

At 26, she was strikingly beautiful with delicate features. But she had spent her childhood and high school years as a chubby and shy girl, standing just 5-foot-3 and weighing 200 pounds at her heaviest.

My letter to him from the other thread:

Dear Judge Greer,

Please allow Terri's mother and father to take her home and care for her. Please don't sentence her to a slow, agonizing death by purposeful starvation. She's a conscious, viable human being .. her body is not rejecting food.

She's NOT hooked up to machinery, she's NOT in a coma nor in a persistent vegetative state; she's disabled from a suspicious event and merely requires a tube for direct nourishment ... nourishment is what we all need to live .. THIS IS NOT ARTIFICIAL LIFE SUPPORT!!!! Please don't allow your court to be corrupted by this redefining of the language: A FOOD TUBE IS NOT ARTIFICIAL LIFE SUPPORT!!

She's both been a vehicle AND an alabatross around the neck of her "guardian," who's cohabitating with another woman and has two children. Though Terri may have been his main mission in life once, it's preposterous to believe that his sole purpose in life now is the protection of Terri .. he has a new life and family.

I URGE you to release him from his untenable role as her guardian .. it's fraught with conflicts of interest .. and please return her to her family to love and care for .. until her natural death.

If I was denied food and water, I'd die too. How about you?

God Bless You in this vital decision, which will be watched and noted all over the world. People are very involved in this case of throwing away disabled people, and will react according to the integrity, morality and ethics of your decision.

I just heard on the news the DCF could delay Greer's decision for 30 days. Of course the media makes mistakes but I'm hoping they've got it right this time.

The DCF is a whole new avenue tho Ted. Governor Bush can NOW through that department use his Executive privilege and frankly, he MUST. If he doesn't I figure his reputation as a politician will be forever ruined.

Bill Spann, a department spokesman, declined to discuss the case; he cited Florida law requiring confidentiality in such matters. But he said allegations of abuse are investigated if a credible complaint is received. Investigations must be completed in 60 days.
