passed a television at the gym yesterday, and it was showing a familiar scene: A crowd of Arabs dancing, chanting, and waving flags for the camera.
Stereotypically, of course, those kinds of Arab crowds are celebrating something awful: A terrorist attack, the downing of a plane, whatever.
But this time, they were celebrating democracy.
And it occurred to me that the "root cause" crowd ought to be celebrating along with them. After all, we've heard for decades that Arab terrorism resulted from Arab despotism, and that if we wanted to end terrorism we ought to quit supporting Arab despots and work for democracy. But it was all talk until one brave man in the White House stood up for Iraqi freedom.
That man was Bill Clinton, who signed the Iraq Liberation Act back in 1998. That Act called for "regime change," and the replacement of Saddam with a democratically elected government. And that's what we're about to get! Nor was Clinton alone.

Moderator please correct tittle to read Clinton. Sorry !
Shouldn't there be a "Barf Alert" with this posting?
Wrongo. This is so outrageous that Reynolds should be fired for incompetence.
Unbelievable. This guy is COMPLETELY delusional!
Barf Alert? No this is a great laugh. I love the smell of RATS self destructing. It smells like VICTORY!
Interesting paragraph. Hits the nail on the head pretty much.
Glenn Reynolds is no left-wing hack. He's the brain behind InstaPundit. Unfortunately, he is dead wrong about Clinton having any responsibility for this day arriving.
How could anyone make the leap that this was Clinton's victory in Iraq?
Amazing! Any victory is Clinton's. It was his military when we gained the victory of the war so quickly.
But any other time it's Bush's screwups that has brought on a quagmire.
HR 4655 Sec 2.6 : In April 1993 Iraq orchestrated a failed plot to assassinate former President George Bush during his April 14-16, 1993 visit to Kuwait.
Bill and 'Dubya agree that its a reprisable offense to try to kill an American President. Apparently many on the Left disagree with them.
Thats right. Clinton signed a piece of paper a couple of years ago and "POOF!", Iraqi's were liberated. Yep, thats exactly what happened.
So, moral of the story: sign a piece of paper, wait a couple of years and tada! Liberation just happens.
/sarc off
So much raging stupidity and ignorance coming from the liberal-demokkkRAT-progressive-socialist-nazi-commie-fascist party, I can't stand it. Where to start...
Go back and read it again. It's sarcasm. Yeah, he starts out saying Clinton and Gore wanted regime change in Iraq six years ago, then asks why the Dems didn't stay consistent with that policy.
They're still trying to create a legacy for Clinton.
The Iraq election is NOT Clintons' legacy and never will be no matter how they try and spin it.
Clinton had numerous chances to make a difference - but his actions were always dictated by what the polls said. So he never walked the walk - just talked the talk. He was never a leader and this is just one more example.
There are actually vast numbers of gullible morons around who believe this sort of Barbra Streisand B.S. (48% of the voters to be precise)
I think that GR is actually pointing out the 'rat disconnect between blame and credit vis-a-vis Iraq.
