IS Mary Mapes, the only CBS News staffer fired in the wake of Memogate, about to spill her guts on ABC? Sources say that Mapes Dan Rather's longtime producer who obtained the bogus National Guard memos has been wooed by rival ABC stars Diane Sawyer and Barbara Walters. Mapes is said to be leaning toward Sawyer. The Mapes interview, timed to air before before Rather retires from his evening news anchor chair on March 9, will be helpful to Mike Walker, the venerable gossip columnist for the National Enquirer. Walker has a book, "Rather Dumb: A Top Tabloid Reporter Tells CBS How to Do News," coming out in two weeks in which he gleefully takes on Rather and the rest of "the media elite." Walker argues that he and his dirt-digging colleagues at the tabloids are far better at investigating dubious documents than the over-educated "journalists" at the networks. "We know about documents," Walker told PAGE SIX.

Using this leak as leverage for a bigger severance package.
CBS will pay a few million to keep her from saying that Rather pushed the story over the objections of their document experts.
What? Dan Rather isn't breaking this story?
She's the one who contacted the Kerry campaign, thus implicating CBS in tampering with a federal election no matter what CBS's lawyers (the "independent" investogators of Rathergate) say
She'll probably keep her mouth shut to cover her own rear.
Fair enough, but CBS doesn't know what she'll say. I think it's still to put pressure on the CBS lawyers negotiating her golden parachute.
That's possible too.
Nahw. her negotiations were finished the moment CBS gave her the boot. They gave her an iron anchor and shoved her out the back door.
What this is, is an backdoor way of getting some cash to her because they "feel" bad about the way CBS cut her loose. Though I suspect that they are all thinking the same thing:
There, but by the grace of God, go I.
CBS won't be hurt too bad by whatever she has to say. There will be a lot of obfuscating on all ends of that interview.
Mapes called the Kerry campaign and asked what they were hearing about Bush from the reporters covering the campaign. Why were they hearing anything from the reporters? Doesn't this mean that the reporters were then actually part of the campaign? And they get their knickers in a bunch over Armstrong Williams? I know, I know, just another example of how unbiased the msm is.
Arkancide
It sure smells like Dan has broken it!

I disagree. Being the socialist scumbag she is, she won't be able to keep from blaming everyone else involved while trying to make herself out to be the victim. It could be nasty, and I hope it is.
