I read somehwere that 13 million were Registered.

That's probably right. That would make the turnout 62%, then (8 Million / 13 Million).

Thanks.

He said the part about the success not being as big as the Bush administration would like it to be in the context of how media outlets in the ME are covering the elction. However, he has been doom and gloom all day, so it's not too far a leap to assume he feels the same way. He's a big a**.

"I kinda laughed since this little backwards country filled with dark age religious fanatics was clearly never a direct threat to the United States like the former Soviet Union was. Not even close or in the same league."

Those dark age religious fanatics are electing a secular government. Doesn't quite fit your stereotype.

Interesting how you parse your words: "never a DIRECT threat"--I guess if Saddam got his pals in the UN to drop sanctions, as the DUmmies and probably you wanted, he would suddenly just DROP the terrorist support he was giving while restricted, and WOULDN'T expand his attempts to get WMD, WOULDN'T expand his attempts to kill Americans (Bush 41 IS an American, whether you like it or not) and WOULDN'T make an alliance with the terrorists who would love to put together WMD attacks against the US?

Your crybaby attitude about the 187 vote is embarassing. Sorry Bush didn't support your pet vote--not that he had any power over it, but you seem to forget that-- but to then become a reactionary on everything the guy does after that is a very simplistic, reductionist way of thinking. Good thing he doesn't share your narrow view of the world, or we might be typing these posts through protective gear. Have a nice day! :)

I think the registration #'s were in the 90% range of eligible voters.

Turkey is mostly Sufi Muslim. They don't accept a literal interpretation of the Haddiths for modern life. The fundamentalist Sunnis and Shiites do.

Muslims are individuals with different internal views of life. It is not hard to imagine that most of them secretly don't want to live like Taliban. Marginalizing the fundamentalists is the task at hand. That can't be done until people are not afraid to state their opinion that people today should not have to literally live like Muslims did in 700AD.

In any case a helluva lot of Iraqis showed up to vote at risk of being blown to bits..

But with a massive security clampdown nationwide, the Iraqi election commission said preliminary figures indicated 72 percent of the 14 million registered voters had turned out even three hours before polls closed.

It's true, OSHA...Russert must have taken his cajones out of the lock box and worn them to work this morning, although he probably grabbed his wife's by mistake, cause he stoppped short of offering a pen.

Ask him what's his point? .....

Yeah, I told him I suspected his 2% number was mighty small.

I got a phone call during Bush's message at Noon Central time today, so I missed that.

I told my buddy that I missed his speech and he said Bush said only 2% turned out and that everyone was disappointed. So I knew he was BS-ing me then.

I've got him straightened out on this now.

Thanks.

Tony should be vindicated now even in the eyes of the left, they will spin it of course just like here in the States.

It would be funny if a reserved Tony Blair spoke freely and told the left to STFU.

Thanks

Age structure:
0-14 years: 40.3% (male 5,198,966; female 5,039,173)
15-64 years: 56.7% (male 7,280,167; female 7,094,688)
65 years and over: 3% (male 357,651; female 404,046) (2004 est.)

Median age:
total: 19.2 years
male: 19.1 years
female: 19.3 years (2004 est.)

Looks like 60% is about the total for those over 14.

Apparently they had a very high registration rate as well.
