The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Some American Mosques Carry Extremist Tracts, Study Says
Full Story

WASHINGTON -- Mosques across the U.S. continue to carry books and pamphlets describing non-Muslims as "infidels" and promoting intolerance against Western society, according to a forthcoming study by Freedom House, a U.S. human-rights group.

Despite vows from American Islamic leaders after Sept. 11, 2001, to proselytize peacefully, New York based Freedom House researchers found 57 documents with incendiary material in more than a dozen mosques and Islamic centers in six states and Washington, D.C., visited over the past year.

Interesting links you posted showing all those medical/emergency vehicles/equipment stolen within the last 2-3 days. Very eerie these happenings in CA, WA, FLA, OR and MI, sort of outlining the country.

Some type of hazmat incident at Pyramid Lake in N LA County. 17 people treated. Something to do with epoxy interacting causing a fire.

British police arrested Ahmad, allegedly for terrorism offenses, in December 2003, but released him a week later without charging him. His lawyers have said he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder after being assaulted during that arrest. A police officer has been charged with misconduct over the incident.

Guaranteed he'll be back on the street soon and his "post traumatic stress" will undoubtedly be taken out soon on innocent infidels.

"What was that smell?"

Yeah, I'm still alive, been on the road A LOT the past few weeks, had to make time this week with the recent headlines.

As to the smell, a firefighter I know from Skokie says they usually get this scenario every spring. Contrary to the gas company's denial, when the thaw line begins working back to the surface this time of the year it causes minor shifting in the pipes and sometimes loosens the seams between segments. The winds were light most of Sunday morning from the SE. So whatever was seeping up from the ground wasn't being diffused. I even noticed the odor here on the NW side of the city and the CFD was answering numerous calls for gas leaks also.

Yeah, probably Friday night. I have an exam tomorrow and an interview with the graduate school Friday morning, so I am short on time until after both are done.

Hello everyone.
I have been away for a while now.
I have had two deaths in my family.
The past two months have been agonizing.
My prayers go out to those who are ill.
May G-d watch over you.

I have a high ranking contact in the NYPD who has shared certain information with me. I can discuss only some of it.

As of last Thursday, it became mandatory for every single Police Officer in New York City to carry their department issued Gas masks with them at all times. They are to have these masks with them while traveling to and from work, on or off duty, and kept in a place where it is easily accessible while they are at home. It is my friends opinion that some kind of (CBRN) event is anticipated. I have also been told that the Law Enforcement community in our major cities are at a state of high alert. The National Alert Level will not be raised until SPECIFIC dates, places and modes of attack are determined. THE FEDS DO NOT WANT TO PLAY AROUND WITH THIS ONE. THEY DO NOT WANT THE "BOY WHO CRIED WOLF" syndrome to permeate in the mind of the people. I HAVE KNOWN THIS PERSON FOR A LONG TIME. I HAVE NO REASON TO TAKE THIS AS ANYTHING LESS THAN THE REAL THING.

To my fellow New Yorkers and all those in major cities:
Now is the time to be more vigilant than ever. Notice your surroundings. Do not fight off your "GUT" feelings.

Stay safe

Steven

China will 'use force' to keep Taiwan
Date: 03/03/05

China plans to enact a law that would for the first time encode the country's determination to unify with Taiwan, by force if necessary.

Beijing hasn't disclosed the details the "Anti-Secession Law" that Communist Party leaders plan to present at the annual session of the National People's Congress, which begins on Saturday.

But the proposed law has some in Taiwan speculating it might foster a political witch hunt against Taiwan supporters living in China. The island's leaders say the law would set a legal pretext for military action and warn it will only further alienate the Taiwanese public, already highly skeptical about Beijing's overtures.

"A dark cloud now overshadows the atmosphere of reconciliation," Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian said on Tuesday in a videoconference with European lawmakers and academics.

Chinese leaders say the law will merely give legal heft to their long-standing policy of offering Taiwan broad autonomy in return for peacefully unifying with the mainland, while retaining the option to use force if other means fail. China has claimed wealthy, democratic Taiwan as its own territory since the two sides split during a civil war in 1949.

"This is a law that ... firmly expresses the nation's determination to maintain national sovereignty and territorial integrity," Chen Yunlin, head of the government's Taiwan Affairs Office, wrote in the latest edition of the Communist Party magazine Qiushi.

Comments from Chinese leaders suggest the law wouldn't set new conditions for using force against the island or deadlines for unification.

But since the law hasn't been made public, it isn't clear what the effects will be.

"Only the top people know," said Joseph Cheng, director of the Contemporary China Research Centre at Hong Kong's City University.

Cheng said the law seemed intended at making clear to Taiwan and the United States what steps Beijing would find intolerable, and could spark an attack. China has in the past threatened to fight Taiwan if it declares outright independence, hosts foreign forces, or indefinitely delays unification talks.

"The main thing is to set a baseline for Taiwan and foreign powers about what China would not accept," Cheng said.

US officials have labeled the proposed law an unwelcome development that they fear could spoil hopes for a resumption of Taiwan-China talks, suspended by Beijing in 1999 in a squabble over the island's political status.

But the US response has been low-key, probably because Washington needs Beijing's help with talks on ending North Korea's nuclear program and other sticky issues.

Washington doesn't challenge China's claim to the island, but is bound by law to ensure Taipei has the military means to defend itself from attack.

Beijing took the unusual step of sending Chen, the head of the Taiwan Affairs Office, to Washington in January to discuss the proposed law with US State Department officials. Details of those talks were not disclosed.

China says it had to draft the law after Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian proposed holding a referendum on a new constitution, replacing one adopted in 1947 that Beijing views as an important symbolic link between the two sides since it predates their split.

Like many in Taiwan, Chen refuses to view Taiwan and China as a single nation. Beijing views his proposal for a referendum as dangerously close to an outright vote on independence.

The law comes amid growing business and personal ties between the sides, but also continued worries over the potential for conflict: Washington fears the European Union's plan to end a 15-year-old ban on arms sales to China may endanger Taiwan's security.
