Who in their right mind would want to go from young to having their youthful looks sucked right out of them.

Even those who clean up live with long term mental illnesses.

I have had a tweeker pass me in the store once in awhile and it feels just like a demon whooshed by.

I always can feel their presense and turn around to go yep thought so.

Devil drug for sure. Most drugs take years of use to ruin your health with Crank you can do it overnigh just about.

Also real Meth of the 70's is tame compared to these poison making home labs.

It is the worst thing in society as it ripples evil all around.

The users will steal ANYTHING from any of us to get that next fix.

It terrorizes all!

Our county now sales sudafed behind the counter.

I've never understood why people want to ruin their lives and others' using drugs.

"The scourge has taken hold in the last five years, and rural areas are bearing the brunt of the problem."

BS, not sure how it is used in making meth, but I know 20 years ago farmers in Missouri could not leave a unattended tank of liquid ammonia fertilizer set out over-night in the field without it being stolen.

Don't bother looking for a picture of this woman for 2005...she is likely dead.

Her name is Penny Wood. Here is her story:

Hello. I wanted to thank you for asking permission to use my photo as so many don't.

This drug is evil. There is no other way to describe it. Not only the outer disfiguration is extreme, the effects it has on your insides are worse.

Young (old) people need to know that maybe for a minute you'll be skinny and full of energy, but the long term effects are____________. I have no word to describe, but here is my story for young people to consider....It takes everything I have to walk a flight of stairs. My lungs are destroyed...

I have no control over my bladder - I pee my pants all the time.

I can't take a bowel movement without a laxative.

My long term is short term memories are near to none.

And all this is just the beginning - I've only been clean 1 year and ½; so my body and brain are still not complete. Studies show that meth may cause cancer also.

I want no pity, I just want these young people & old to know what this stuff does to your insides as well as the outward appearance.

You can use my name & what I've written - People need to know and if you want or need anything else from me - please don't hesitate.

Sincerely,
Penny S Wood

The WOD is nothing but a farce and the drugs have won. The DEATH penalty will not fix the problem.

So, evidently your answer is for the government to not even try to stop meth labs' production? Oh, wait, I'm sure it's even better than that. Lemme guess...you want the government to produce their own meth/crank/ice to put the mom-and-pop operations "out of business". Do I have this about right?

"It's rampant in the "boot heel" of Missouri too and has been for years."

You wouldn't be from around Kennett would you? That is the part of Missouri I was refering to in post #46. We were back there on vacation back in the 80's and they were stealing the liquid ammonia left and right even then.

I know young people try alot of things that are dumb and then grow up.

This drug has no age boundries. It has no boundaries period.

Makes heroin users of the 60's look tame.

BTW the local news reports in the lefty town of Portland Oregon heroin has made a big comeback too.

I found her! Here's her story from 2004:

'I started drinking at 11'

"I hung out with an older crowd and started drinking when I was just 11," Wood said. "At 12, I ran away from home with my stepfather's brother, George, who was 17.

"He provided the pot, beer and Jack Daniels that kept us giggling as we spent every day and night dodging the law.

"Running the streets, smoking pot and drinking was pretty much all we did every single day. It was fun. At 13, I was pregnant, and the schools didn't want to know me then. Our first baby, Amy, was born when I was 14 and we found a place of our own. We lived on welfare and handouts from George's parents."

Wood gave birth to another child before she married at 16. She was pregnant for the wedding, but the baby only lived 17 days. Two more pregnancies followed.

"I was only 20 but I had given birth five times," she said. "My husband used to beat me and sometimes take off with my welfare check and leave us with no food.

"From 18 on, I smoked pot every day and tried LSD a few times. My favorite drink was Southern Comfort and Mountain Dew. I would give the children their breakfast, see them off to school and smoke pot. Most evenings I would go to bars, play pool and hustle for drinks and money."

In 1998 she went with a boyfriend to see friends in Missouri and visited an isolated farm.

Penny had never heard of methamphetamine but discovered that her hosts cooked it up in industrial quantities. Unaware of its addictive quality, she tried. She didn't go home for a year.

'Our whole lives were meth'

"They told me if I tried it I would lose weight and stay awake for a long time so I could party even more," she said. "It was like I was walking on clouds. Nothing bothered me and nobody could get into my world."

Sex with her boyfriend was "awesome" on the drug, she said, but she soon needed to do more to get high. She began helping to manufacture and sell the drug, using a horse trough to mix large quantities.

"It was an incredibly easy way to make money," Wood said. "For an investment of $40 for the ingredients, you could make $3,000 worth of dope."

Wood smoked, snorted and ate the drug to get high.

"Between highs I just slept," she said. "At my worst, I would go to bed with a line ready to snort when I opened my eyes, a light bulb made as a pipe to smoke it, a piece to eat and a Budweiser for breakfast.

"Our whole lives were making, dealing and using meth."

'I am the butt of jokes'

Wood returned home for her mother's funeral and was arrested for possessing a marijuana pipe and fined $75.

Four years later when Wood was caught manufacturing methamphetamine and agreed to let her photographs be used, she was assured that her name would not be used. But that didn't mean much in Pekin -- population 33,000.

As she sat in her living room festooned with plastic flowers, ornaments and the paraphernalia of a recovering addict -- Bible, framed prayers -- Wood insisted: "Some days I think prison would have been a lot easier.

"I was hoping to get a job, but everyone knows my past and they won't give me a chance," she said. "My disabilities because of the years I did meth include a chronic cough, so waitressing is out of the question. My lungs are so damaged that I have difficulty walking up a flight of stairs."

Tending bar is out because of the risk of falling back into addiction. Janitorial jobs in schools or nursing homes are out because of her conviction.

"I thought people would want to employ me because I've acknowledged my past and I've changed, but it's totally the opposite," she said. "I don't go out much any more because people whisper about me and point fingers.

"I am the butt of jokes on radio and even when I go to my probation office -- where my picture is on the wall -- people snicker. At 42, I have to face up to the fact that being a poster girl has not improved my life at all. The notoriety has been very damaging and if I could change that I would."

Her first grandchild, Dustin, now 12, poses with her for pictures. She hardly resembles the woman holding him as a baby.

"I've paid for my mistakes," she said. "I have 10 grandkids, and I don't want them to suffer. Other kids tease them about what I've done. I didn't expect this level of public humiliation."

'Disfiguration is extreme'

After police in London wrote asking to use her picture, she replied spelling out all her disabilities.

Hello. I wanted to thank you for asking permission to use my photo as so many don't. This drug is evil. There is no other way to describe it.

Not only the outer disfiguration is extreme, the effects it has on your insides are worse.

Young (old) people need to know that maybe for a minute you'll be skinny and full of energy, but the long term effects are . . . I have no word to describe, but here is my story for young people to consider. It takes everything I have to walk a flight of stairs. My lungs are destroyed.

I have no control over my bladder -- I pee my pants all the time. I can't take a bowel movement without a laxative. . . .

And all this is just the beginning. . . . I want no pity, I just want those young people and old to know what this stuff does to your insides as well as the outward appearance.

Sincerely Penny S. Wood

Stewart Umholtz, the Tazewell County state's attorney who offered her the plea bargain, said he has received e-mails from all over the world seeking permission to use Wood's photograph.

"We felt the poster campaign would help her in her rehabilitation, and we agreed not to use her name," Umholtz said. "But it got out after people approached her to find out more."

'Nothing to show for it'

Today, Wood faces a 9 p.m. curfew, required community service, daily visits by law enforcement officers, random urine tests, the threat of prison time if she strays and occasional raids by police. A few weeks ago, a drug enforcement team with machine guns surrounded her house, burst in, searched her house and found nothing.

Her daughter, Iva, served 2-1/2 years in prison for methamphetamine-related crimes. Her son, Timmy, is behind bars for manufacturing meth, a craft Wood said he learned from her.

"After all that has happened, I still hope that by cooperating something good will happen," Wood said. "Between us we have nothing to show for it.

"I was overwhelmed when I heard from the British police. I want people to know that it ends in destruction, jail or death."

I don't know which is worse, the level of ignorance I'm seeing on this thread from the "Speed Kills" folks, or the fact that you are all buying this WOD propaganda BS hook, line, and sinker. Ask some of our combat pilots or Rangers about the meth they're ISSUED. But that's OK, since they are administered their doses by a doctor, right? Hypocrisy - whether left or right politically - still sucks.

Flame me all you want - I'm not advocating drugs - but you all sound like a group of young Germans that just left the Reichstag back in the '30s after a little fire, or maybe a closer analogy would be Krystallnacht. Just because the DEA and some LEOs say this prolem is huge doesn't mean it's true. They're no different than anyone else - this means job security. If they solve the drug war by arresting all of the druggies, they're out of work. If they end the drug war and admit it was a huge waste of money as well as human lives, they're out of a job from that as well. But if they trumpet how horrible this "problem" is, they're guaranteed to retire from law enforcement. Wake the hell up, parrots. The WOD is not about drugs, it's about control and money. (Control over our lives, and how can they make more money.) Government all too often exists to fix a problem that government caused or invented. The WoD has been the Feds tool to usurp more of our rights than any other issue in American history. That's all, nothing more.

I just visited a friend today and her daughter is on the deep end of this.

Last year her daughter was a high school senior.
Last fall she enrolled in college..She wanted to be a teacher.
Sometime during the summer before college she "tried" crank at a party with friends.
Then she kept "trying" it.

Today, she is living with a 42 year old felon.
Yep, 42.
She quit going to class, lost her scholarship and quit college after 1 semester...
and in december she started stripping. yes, stripping...at 18 years old. Her dad is beside himself...sick, angry,

imagine having people in your town able to go out to a local strip club to watch your drug addicted daughter strip....

She went from an honor student, all state band, girl with a future to a crank addicted stripper in 12-15 months. She's going to be 19 in may.

Her mom said the worst part was the stealing. My friend recently had back surgery, and her medication went missing. When confronted, daughter admitted she took it.....can you imagine that, stealing your mom's pain meds she got for back surgery?

Anyhow, my friends husband has banned the daughter from the home and any contact, he has a sick wife and frankly that's his priority.

Yep, meth is a bit of a problem here in KS as well.
A depressing afternoon visiting with them...

Well what was a problem in rural areas 20yrs ago is now a problem in most all rural areas now.

Here in Oregon Eastern side (farmlands) even those who you would never think of getting dirty with this epedimic are producing it.

One lil town had two water towers and the keeper of those towers was storing his product in one of the towers. Nice huh.

A guy in a upper middle class known as a nice nieghbor making the crap and now has condenmed on his nice home.

A state funded outreach program of some sort (can't remember, think it was for kids in need) had a worker making it in the basement of the site.

Now that is brazen. Jerk (the guy).

Prisoners forced to do useful work is a great idea. Plus, they learn a skill/trade they can use to support themselves when/if they are released. A major problem that must be addressed before we do it is the unions. They already don't like the idea of prison labor. But, what a concept! Prisoners more than paying for the cost of their incarceration. Prisoners forced to benefit the society they harmed! Yeah, baby!

The govt. buildings are also being used to make the stuff by workers.

Meth problem has become like rats in NYC, you keep your home clean and clear of debris so you don't get invaded.
