MARCHERS IN MTN. VIEW SEEK PROTECTION Worried about a number of violent attacks against immigrant workers in Florida and the recent arrests of others in San Mateo and Southern California, about 100 Bay Area day workers marched and rallied in Mountain View on Thursday evening as part of a national vigil to press for greater protection for day laborers. ------- The mayor of Mountain View, Matt Neely, joined the gathering to express support.
The protest comes on the heels of last week's undercover operation in San Mateo County, where 14 day workers, many of them from Guatemala, were arrested and ticketed for illegally soliciting work from downtown streets.
------------ In Redondo Beach in October, the city arrested and cited dozens of day workers for soliciting work. A judge has blocked the city from continuing with the arrests while the case is pending.
They carried hand-painted signs, marched to the steps of the Mountain view Center for the Performing Arts and chanted, ``What do we want? Justice! Justice!''
``We are not terrorists,'' said Marco Antonio Cedillo, a worker from Mountain View, who also volunteers at the center. ``We only want to participate in the progress of this great nation,'' he said in Spanish.
``In October, a small group of unidentified protesters heckled day workers who congregated on the sidewalk at the parking lot's edge at Orchard Hardware on West San Carlos in San Jose.
---------------
The most recent arrests of day workers in San Mateo was not a crackdown, but a reluctant last step, said Capt. Mike Callagy of the San Mateo Police Department.
Police officers repeatedly warned the workers who gathered in downtown San Mateo that they were violating a city ordinance that prohibited work solicitation on the streets, Callagy said.

Lol. Mountain View? Hard to believe that Silly-cone valley is having problems with illegal immigrants.
Oh dear, oh dear. WHO is going to do the gardening, landscaping labor? WHO is going to do the housework and be nannies? WHO, WHO, WHO!?!?
Let them march peacefully into a group of Greyhound buses marked for Tijuana.
``We are not terrorists,'' said Marco Antonio Cedillo, a worker from Mountain View, who also volunteers at the center. ``We only want to participate in the progress of this great nation,'' he said in Spanish.
Maybe, just maybe those words should be spoken at the grave site of the elderly lady in Mountain View that was beaten to death by migrant workers.
Why don't these marchers take part in the progress of their own nations?
That hits the nail on the head. People in Silicon Valley wouldn't be able to maintain their self-involved lifestyles if they had to pay for legal workers.
That would be..hard.
You know, whenever I go to Indiana, the lawns are always mowed. It is the darnest thing! And almost no illegals! And they have REALLY big lawns there.!
We must stand up for and fight for immigration reform. Team America and Tom Tancredo is traveling our country to make sure that illegal immigration reform is the number one issue for presidential candidates of 2008. Of course, Tom Tancredo cannot get elected to president but he is paving the way for a Christian Conservative pro-life, pro-growth, pro-immigration reform candidate to unite the entire Reagan Wing and win the primary in 08. We believe a strong social and fiscal conservative will step up to take on the task of restoring our conservative values of limited government and national security (starting with our borders). He will be able to accurately and gracefully articulate our conservative values and principles on a national level. Our man is out there, we must rally around him immediately and early to ensure his presidency. Who out there is willing to join me in this fight????
Justice?
Justice is a bus ride out of the country along with a bill for the expenses of rounding them up and shipping them out.

I am from Indiana and my small town of nearly 35,000 has grown immensely because of the influx of illegal immigrants. You look in our local newspaper of arrests and they are always mexican names. In fact, my friend the other accidently ran over a mexican man on his bike. He got out to see if he was ok and if he needed him to call an ambulance, but the guy was so scared that he rode off quickly with blood dripping down him. So illegal immigration is a big issue to every state and every area of America. WE must fight now!!
Those folks must, gasp, choke, MOW THEIR OWN LAWNS.
Does EVERY male in town have a large number of very loud power tools that he cranks up every weekend? Lol. I love'em.
Hey do you run the www.saveourstate.org??? If so I am about to email you.
Me thinks they could afford the help but might have to give up a few "luxuries"

The problem that you spoke of is not just limited to California. I have travelled throughout the US and have seen the problem in New York, North Carolina and most of the other Atlantic states.
But the problem goes deeper. They have brought a level of violence with them.
The Mayor of Mountain View should spoken about this before he made his statement regarding support.
"Police officers repeatedly warned the workers who gathered in downtown San Mateo that they were violating a city ordinance that prohibited work solicitation on the streets, Callagy said."
In the state department warning about travel to Mexico, they warned this:
" Travelers should avoid demonstrations and other activities that might be deemed political by the Mexican authorities. The Mexican Constitution prohibits political activities by foreigners, and such actions may result in detention and/or deportation."

More are with you than you yet know.
Voices are getting louder and louder. Amen.
