I've been watching the expats all day. This morning when they showed workers applauding as ballots were cast, I had to leave the room and find a kleenex. I wondered as I tried to clear the blurry TV screen, what my marine was thinking tonight. I wondered if he had any idea I was sitting here in the US crying over another nations right to vote. Does he really have any idea how great a thing it is they've done and will continue to do? Can he see the forest through the trees or does he only see insurgents and IED's? My nephew, my hero and one of Iraqs heros.

As Iraqi's go to the polls in the morning, pray for them. "Voter intimidation" should take on a new meaning to you.

In all honesty, I have been dreading today. I was afraid for my son in Iraq, but after seeing all these pictures, I am somewhat ashamed of my selfish attitude. The look on these Iraqi's faces and to actually see the joy in their eyes of being able to do something we Americans have taken for granted for over 200 years is amazing. I too wonder if my son actually realizes what he is a part of, someday he will, but for now he is just a kid who wants to come home and drive his truck...
