It's really sad that there are people in my nation that are actually hoping that some major violence occurs during the Iraq elections, so they can blame President Bush for it.
Gutless liberal democrat cowards.
Godspeed, Iraq!

The Doomsayers lack something which you either have or you don't: Trust in the hope of freedom. Believe me I ain't all mushy and saccharine, it's just that whatever the post-war situation has been, people see a CHANCE, and they are taking it. The Olbermans, Matthewses and Clifts and Kennedys of the world can't see that because they only see one thing: George W. Bush securing a place in history greater than that of their beloved Clinton, Carter or JFK. They don't give a rat's ass about Iraqis. Is Bush a perfectly pure person who only cares about Iraqis? No--he cares about making peace for US, and driving a stake through the heart of Islamofascism is the key to that.
Bush is a Big Picture guy living among spiritual midgets.

"All of the pictures are wrong, the MSM says so. They're so sure of it they wrote their "the election is a total failure" stories days ago. We're all doomed!"
I just read an interesting bit of info about the French Revolution. The voter turnout for the Legislative Assembly in 1791 (the first vote to elect members using the newly written Constitution) was 10% of the eligible voters. And yet this is held up as one of the great epochal events of civilization. I have no doubt that the Iraqi people will put the French to shame! They will then join a not-very-exclusive club.

I followed your link to Yahoo News. They have 188 pics up from the various wire services. The pics were great, but what was really interesting was looking at the tone of the captions. I noticed about ten different Reuters pics that had captions that included this phrase:
A suicide car bomb exploded on Saturday close to a U.S. and Iraqi security centre near a polling station in the Iraqi town of Khanaqin, northeast of Baghdad, an election commission official in the province said. REUTERS/Thaier Al-Sudani
Then there were a bunch that included the misquote of al-Yawer predicting a low turnout. Then there were several that said something like "crowds were large at the US polling locations since only five cities were used for voting". A later series of Reuters pics were captioned with the same phrase, but had the word "only" omitted.
Just kind of interesting.
AP seemed to have the least editorial content in its captions, btw.

Beautiful pictures indeed, compared to the old Saddam ballot form....

We have just given the greatest gift one man can give to another. There is no selfless act more divine than giving ones life for another mans freedom. God is smiling, and proud of us today. The fallen soldiers that have given everything so that this gift is possible are being greeted with open arms as they pass through heavens gate for there is a special place reserved for their arrival.

Well, so far we are looking at expatriates without any violence. Let's hope it stays that way inside Iraq.

Wonderful thread. Thanks for posting it. Here's a couple more:
Iraqis dance on the street as they wave a Kurdish flag after casting their vote for the Iraqi election in Cologne, western Germany, Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005.
Iraqi Hussein Al-Khatat casts his ballot at a polling station in Ottawa, January 29, 2005. Iraqis, who can vote in their national elections in three different Canadian cities, are electing a 275-member National Assembly.
