Ted Kennedy needs to take a long walk off a short pier. When his time comes, I hope it is by drowning.

I'm fond of poetic justice.

(BTW--he looks very healthy, unfortunately).

They need to stretch out that redline until it makes a complete perimeter from the airport to the Embassy (Green Zone) and includes everything in between.

Are we playing for keeps or for fun?

Its pathetic to seen an American Senator rooting against democracy

What he did is far worse than that. He's sent a clear signal that the US will cut and run if he, the Democrats, and the media have anything to say about it, leaving any Iraqi US supporters to their fate with the terrorists.

It's going to take more guts than most people in this country can even imagine for these people to go to the polls, knowing they're going to be identified by the terrorists for future reprisals.

"I know how the media will spin it...just like they did Tet."

It won't work this time. LBJ was an idiot to buy into Cronkite's BS - you can bet W will not. As you know, many more people are wise to the media claptrap than before.

Elections will be held across Iraq tomorrow. People will be going to the polls. I'd say Rumsfeld and Bremmer had done a pretty good job.

If you guys can't stand some negatives once in a while, why don't you turn the channel to the football game and take a load off.

Strat, you said You can bet a lot of insurgents will get ambushed by snipers and whatnot...

And, intuitively I agree.

I'm not sure just why we don't hear reports of the Iraqis having a strong network of vigilantes who, via Kalashnikov, would persuade insurgents to cease their obstruction of the fledgling democracy.

LBJ was an idiot to buy into Cronkite's BS

It had nothing to do with LBJ buying into anything - it was the American public. If you remember, public opinion got so bad that LBJ declined to run for reelection in 1968.

The media tasted blood back then, and have lusted after it ever since.

The terrorists have had a long time to plan for this.

Same amount of time as we have had...and I believe our folks are the better planners and strategists.

The terrorists and tyrant holdovers are losing and they know it. If they had prevented the elections, things might be different...but the elections are going to be held, millions and millions of Iraqis are going to vote, while a couple of hundred thousand of their own people protect them.

Then they are going to create their own constitution, vote on it and hold more elections. The enemy will fight it every step of the way, but more and more (as is occurring now) they will be fighting their own people.

There will be some more blood spilt no doubt...but freedom is in fact on the march in Iraq, perhaps not up to our standards, but at least a vastly greater measure of it than ever before possible.
