Execution of Connecticut serial killer is postponed

SOMERS, Conn -- The execution of a serial killer who has become the strongest advocate for his own death was postponed at the last moment early Saturday, delaying what would be New England's first execution in 60 years.

State officials delayed the lethal injection until Monday morning to address a possible conflict of interest with serial killer Michael Ross' attorney, T.R. Paulding.

"The request made by Mr. Paulding today is appropriate and we have no choice but to honor it," Chief State's Attorney Christopher Morano said.

Ross, an Ivy League graduate who terrorized eastern Connecticut and New York in the early 1980s, had been scheduled to die by injection at 2 a.m. Saturday. Ross hired Paulding last year to help expedite his execution.

Ross confessed to eight killings and decided last year to drop all appeals, but his father and public defenders who have fought to save his life won a brief delay this week, arguing that he is not mentally competent to decide his fate.

The Supreme Court on Friday lifted an order blocking Connecticut from putting him to death, but Ross' attorney requested the delay hours later.

Officials would not discuss the suspected conflict Saturday, but the decision came after a federal judge scolded Paulding for helping Ross end his life.

I'd imagine repeatedly being put on Old Sparky and then getting yanked off at the last minute would be far more cruel than death itself.

No kidding...New England wanted to secede way back in the early 1800's. Too bad it never happened.

So a Federal Judge injects his personal feelings into this and Justice is once again denied, or at least delayed, again. Imagine that.

On another thread, someone said another inmate is claiming that the monster doesn't REALLY want to die and the lawyer ignored the "evidence". The inmates supposedly communicate through the duct work.

Seems reasonable.....to a liberal judge. The cretin tells other inmates he wants to live but not his father or appellate lawyers.

Ross hired Paulding last year to help expedite his execution.

The lawyer isn't doing his job. Fire him. Actually, he is doing the opposite of what he was hired for. He should be prosecuted.

The activist judge who caused all this trouble by issuing the first stay, and sending it to the Circuit and the Supreme Courts, had an "unusual" conference call with Ross' lawyer. The details are not listed in this article.

Apparently the judge threatened to disbar the lawyer and possibly prosecute him if he did NOT stop the execution. And that the judge cannot live with himself if the state executes Ross. Paulding has been under such pressure from the anti-death penalty groups in this state, I can't blame him for breaking under the pressure of possibly being disbarred by a psycho judge (the ONLY judge to ever find that Ross is not competent).

The local media is a circus and I for one am getting sick of it. I actually had my hopes up last night...this sick pig raped and murdered at least 8 women and he does not deserve to be living off my tax dollars!

I just woke up to find they have YET AGAIN delayed the final reckoning for this murderer. IMO it is another example of activists, judges and narrow interest groups, substituting their values for the will of the people. In this case, it is even the will of the convicted murderer! Simply an exhibition of the Elitists and their power to create chaos in every facet of social life in this country. A travesty and a mess - Just what they wanted.

Will he outlive Terri Schiavo?

Sadly, we now know the answer.
