Where the racism's found (and it ain't the GOP)

Where the racism's found
by Dan Brockway, Staff Writer, The Keystone

I find it both funny and disturbing how the Left in America has managed to make conservatives look racist. It’s ironic that the Republican Party (the party of Abe Lincoln- emancipator of the slaves) is often labeled racist, while the Democratic Party (the party of Thomas Jefferson who raped his own slaves) is seen as the black man’s best friend. It’s scary because most of America buys it.

Even in recent history, conservatives in Congress have been more African-American friendly than so-called “progressive” liberals. Sixty-two percent of Democrats in Congress supported the Civil Rights Act of 1964, compared to 92 percent of Republicans.

One particular Democrat who opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was strict segregationist Al Gore Sr. (D-TN). Yes, that’s the father of our former vice president, the man who lost the election of 2000, Al Gore Jr.

The fact that Democrats pretty much control the black vote baffles me. Ever notice how much Democrats like Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy and John Kerry reach out to black voters in the months leading up to an election? Funny, I haven’t heard much from them on the issue since November.

One person who you won’t hear standing up for the black man is former member of the Ku Klux Klan and current Democratic senator, Robert Byrd (D-WV). That’s right folks, a former member of the KKK is a senior senator, and very well-respected figure in the Democratic Party. And Republicans are racist?

This really shouldn’t come as a big surprise. Just look at some of the things liberal Democrats stand for. They like to raise taxes, putting a large financial burden on middle class families, both black and white.

They oppose school voucher programs that would help young black children escape from run down inner-city schools. If you’ve always been of the opinion that Republicans are the racist ones, are you starting to feel like you’ve been lied to?

This raises an interesting point. How have Democrats managed to cover all this up? How have they hidden their history of opposing the end of slavery and segregation? Simple, they’ve done it by lying.

We could examine John Kerry’s campaign paying Al Sharpton to drum up support for him among the black community. We could even examine the constant race-baiting that liberals are surely guilty of.

Hell, we could look at Bowling for Columbine, a film in which Michael Moore manages to paint Charlton Heston, a conservative, as racist. This is Charlton Heston, a man who marched next to Martin Luther King Jr. in the 1960s, and also the first white actor to kiss a black actress in a film. Oh how easily the liberals lie and twist facts.

You see, it’s not all that difficult to see through liberal B.S. You just have to pay attention. Let’s take Condoleezza Rice as an example.

All the members of Bush’s cabinet face criticism: Cheney is an “evil genius” while Rumsfeld is a “hateful warmonger.” As for Condi Rice, she’s “inexperienced” and “stupid.”

Why don’t the Democrats just come out and say that they don’t think a black woman can handle the job? Or maybe they’re just realizing that the more black people Bush appoints to powerful positions, the harder it will be for them to paint him as a racist.

Whatever the case may be, I just hope this little article opens your mind up a bit. Conservatives as a group aren’t racist. Individuals are racist. And there are just as many racist individuals on the liberal side, if not more.

Not anymore, I think that has fallen onto the Latin vote now. If the '04 vote is any indication.

One thing that helps to perpetuate the "Republicans are racists" garbage is people like Pat Buchanan pass themselves off as conservatives/Republicans. Buchanan has done more harm to the conservative cause than just about any other single person. His well known rants abouts Jews, immigrants, and other non native born Americans have probably cost the GOP a good percentage of votes from multiple ethnic voting blocks for years to come.

Russell Kirk once wrote, “A conservative is not, by definition, a selfish or a stupid person; instead, he is a person who believes there is something in our life worth saving.”

And in that statement tells it all. A conservative, believing that there is something in our life worth saving, cannot be racist, which destroys a life based on color, etc...

Tell me about it. It's amazing how far you can go by calling yourself a conservative while trying to destroy conservatism.

The media is more than happy to push people like Pat as "conservatives" in order to convince the masses that conservatives really are racist, xenophobic, nutjobs.

Whhat is even more amazing is that many people pass themselves off as conservatives when they really are LBJ style Democrats.

He stole his own thunder with that closing line.

He had just spent an entire article detailing how it was the democratic heritage to support slavery, Jim Crow, defeat of civil rights, and the prevention of advancement for blacks.

He shouldn't have wimped out at the end with this "individuals are racist" claptrap.

His conclusion should have read, "Conservatives have not been the ones holding back minorities...they've been the ones voting for opportunity and equality . But, all along it has been the democratic party that has held the black man down."

of course Jefferson raped slaves...by their very nature, a slave woman could not say no to her masters demands therefore, if Jefferson had sex with a black woman he, by defination, raped her...live with it

I agree. Incidentally, one of my old college professors
has just had a book published, "Russell Kirk and the Age
of Ideology" by Wes McDonald. Very good and I think you
might enjoy it. Relative to why the vast majority of
blacks vote Democratic, it should be noted that historically they were Republican until FDR. It is largely
the welfare state (which has helped destroy the traditional
black family) which has made them a dependent class. Most
Democrats view them as workers on the party plantation.
Things are slowly beginning to change (welfare reform
was a small step) but it probably will take another generation. The Republicans must face the fact that
because a few individual blacks are off the plantation,
it doesn't change the reality that the Democrats can
still "outpromise" them. Take affirmative action. This
is in reality insulting and harmful to blacks. But who
is holding out the Big Carrot? The Democrats, and
they are professionals in the race game. Progress will
be gradual but consistent.

First, a belated welcome to Free Republic. Secondly, I'm going to ping you to a commentary article I wrote. And thanks for the book hint. I appreciate it. Chris

We became the ruling majority because we were able to purge the GOP from Buchanin and his followers.
