They're so afraid of things that might kill them that they can't live!

Never got chosen for a game of pickup-ball in their lives, I can almost guarantee it.

Useless as a shortstop, catcher,etc.....("I might get hit in the face"), formed their life's philosophy.

The antithesis of living on the edge:

Living on a broad, flat surface from which there is no danger of falling off.

When their non-smoking lives are done, they can look back and remind themselves of the most exciting thing they ever did in their lives: Riding the kiddie train at the carnival.
