Tennis star Martina Navratilova has used her appearance at the Australian Open to support the campaign against mulesing by animal rights group, PETA.
Ms Navratilova has written to the Prime Minister John Howard, asking him to act immediately to stop the 'cruel and horrific' practice of mulesing.
Ms Navratilova was unavailable to comment this morning, due to tennis commitments.

I believe animals get better health care than humans- because dead or sick animals are not profitable.

Not even local anesthetic? How can you neuter pigs and cows without anesthetics and they give anesthetic to dogs and cats?
yeah, that's a point... then again, you'd be surprised at how may operations are done on animals without painkillers. =\ One of my kitties broke a claw and it got infected... the vet pulled it right out. *cringe*
Yeah the vet did that to my dog too. I was screaming at him to use anesthesia and he just laughed at me *LOL*
I don't know about pigs & cows, but they neuter goats by putting a rubber band around their, y'know. It falls off all by itself.
Mulesing is named after an Australian stockman, Mr J.H.Mules, who invented and helped develop the procedure during the 1930s.
Poor doggy! At least it was quick. They usually put down animals only when they can't make the animal still enough to do the operation. My boyfriend's cat was put down just to have its teeth cleaned.

I came onto this thread for 2 reasons.
1) to learn what mulesing was (dictionary.com was my first stop - but it was not terribly enlightening)
2) to see how many posts it would take before some idiot referenced her sexuality (I say idiot, as her sexuality is clearly a non-issue in this context)
I now know what mulesing is, and the answer to #2 was that it took until post #16, which surprises me, I thought it would be in the first 10 posts.
Can this procedure be performed on all Democrats in the US Senate?
