'Child erotica' found during search at Jackson's Neverland Ranch
CourtTV ^ | 1.25.05 | Diane Dimond

Normally, after the police serve a search warrant on a location, an itemized list of what has been confiscated is released to the public. But nothing about the Michael Jackson case has been "normal" — not during the investigation, which began in 1993, and not during the most current case, which started in 2003.

Most of the Jackson search-warrant returns have been heavily redacted, leaving the public to guess what kind of "books, magazines, videos and DVDs" were taken from Neverland Ranch.

Now, Court TV's Investigative Unit can reveal some of the specifics.

One of the books confiscated from Jackson's home in 1993 is entitled "The Boy: A Photographic Essay." According to child erotica connoisseurs on the Internet, this rare book is considered to be "a homoerotic classic." The book, published in 1964, contains dozens of photographs of nude prepubescent boys, many in suggestive poses. There are nude boys captured outdoors, nude boys who appear to be posing for the camera, and boys displaying full frontal nudity.

Dr. Patricia Farrell, who has worked with pedophiles and their victims, studied the book for Court TV and concluded, "I think that this book could be used as a vehicle in a plan for seduction." Dr. Farrell said the photos in the book are perfect ammunition for a pedophile to use to begin a dialogue with a potential victim.

"It's to introduce that whole sexual kind of atmosphere," Dr. Farrell explained. "Then you can begin to use [it] and go on from there. You know, it's like going through a maze [for the molester]. They don't go through directly to the target — you go this way and that way to get to the target."

Retired NYPD sex crimes investigator Joe Gelfand, who worked in the pedophile unit for 12 years along with associates from the FBI, also studied the book. In his opinion, the coffee-table-size tome "is geared for people who, I would say, would be sexually attracted to adolescent boys." Asked if he considered it a pornographic book, Gelfand told Court TV, "I've made any arrests in my day and many times we've seen photographs like this in the homes of pedophiles. It's not sexually explicit, but it is erotica. It is child erotica."

In addition to the book, CTV's I-Unit can confirm that investigators from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department also confiscated loads of pornographic material from various locations in Jackson's home. (Watch the video for a full list.)

Porn movies with titles like "Barely Legal" and "Pimp Up, Ho's Down" were taken from the entertainer's master bedroom. Pornographic materials were found in Jackson's master bathroom, his den and in a second-floor closet, as well.

Other law enforcement sources explained that it is important to understand the atmosphere in which a book like this is discovered. If it is found in the possession of someone who collects books on photography, that's one thing. If it is found among a collection of pornography, that might indicate that detectives were dealing with a pedophile.

The I-Unit can confirm that when the book was confiscated, pornography was found, too. Search warrants list numerous porn magazines, movies, photographs and books that were taken as evidence.

Both Dr. Farrell and Investigator Gelfand call the discovery of mostly heterosexual pornographic magazines significant, because many molesters of young boys use such material to excite and stimulate their prey.

"The pedophile may think that the adolescent boy ... will probably be excited to see these magazines, more so than, say, magazines involving naked men," Gelfand said.

Michael Jackson and his attorneys have consistently said that Jackson is not guilty of the charges against him.

"He would never harm a child," his team has repeated many times. In the courtroom in Santa Maria, Calif., lead defense attorney Tom Mesereau has indicated they will present evidence at trial that proves the young accuser at the center of the current case (and his brother) helped themselves to Jackson's pornography collection —without the entertainer's permission.

That could explain how the boy's fingerprints got on a copy of a magazine called "Barely Legal." Sources tell Court TV forensic tests found both the boy's prints, as well as Jackson's fingerprints, on the same magazine.

Or heterosexual porn might just get Michael off. I'm not sure I see a clear claim in this article that Jackson had kiddie porn in his place. They come close to saying it, but stop short.

One of those confiscated books withh photos of naked teenage boys was shown on the Today Show or some similar show, and it did not look pornographic unless you consider naked bodies just standing there porn. I don't think the Supreme Court does.

I hope prosecutors are relying on things they're not telling us to make their case.

Somehow Court TV obtained a copy of this book and showed some of the images on TV. I was wondering how they obtained it. They said that not all the pictures could be shown. Somene could claim that it was just a bunch of art photographs, but the book was clearly intended to appeal to people with more than just an artistic interest in boys.

I wonder if this is an effort at jury tampering by one side or the other. A self leak by Jackson's camp to argue bias and leaking. A deliberate leak by the prosecutor to create conviction inertia.

No, they are different songs.

"We Are Family" was by the Pointer Sisters. Nile Rogers helped write it in 1979. And the We Are Family Foundation uses the song as well as the theme to promote a global family concept, according to Roger's interview on O'Reilly. No other comment from me, on the group or it's intentions.

"We Are the World" was done by various artists including Michale Jackson, and has no links to the We Are Family Foundation. It was used to help Live Aid in 1985.

An isolated photo of a naked child is not necessarily pornographic. To me it would depend on where and why it was taken. A book full of naked pre-teenage boys seems sick to me. If it's in the possession of a grown man who admits sleeping with boys, it's part of a pattern.

There was a certain wisdom in the old nuthouses - padded rooms and straitjackets. Maybe California authorities need to look into that.

Actually I heard that the We are Family organization was using a redone version of We are the World in its upcoming march campaign.

"Why have they not taken his children away????????"

Well, for one he has not been found guilty of anything, and the materials found in his house, including the book being discussed in the article, are not illegal.

I would adventure to say, that if you or I had those same articles in our house and the police found them our children would be taken away.

Some states take the children away if they are spanked.

You can't tell me this man doesn't get special privileges because of who he is!

PLEASE CONVICT THIS PREDATOR!!!!

Yes, he does need to be convicted, and his children need to be placed in a safe environment. Obviously not with their "moms".

Michael Jackson is a very troubled soul, but that does not excuse him from his actions. The damage he's done to the young boys he's come in contact will be with them for the rest of their lives.

I think the parents who's sons have been molested by Jackson should be culpable as well, and charged with SOMETHING.

Anyone with half a brain who has followed this case knows that Jackson is a textbook pedophile. Are you excusing his behavior as an obsessive fan, or a NAMBLA member? Just wondering.....

Jackson's actions since all of this began have been defiant.

Hell, he's been getting away with it for what, 15 years, probably longer? He's been all but openly flaunting the fact that he's a child molester, daring us to do anything about it. No surprise he's defiant - he thinks he'll be able to make this one go away as well, given enough money and Bill Clinton-style victim vamping for the media.

Besides, these perverts convince themselves that they haven't done any harm, that their victims wanted it, and that the only reason it's such a big deal is that the church and the "religious right" fill the kids' heads with guilt over their sexuality. And in the case of a Michael Jackson, the media just enables these attitudes because they worship "celebrities" and want "celebrities" to like them.

What a moron you are.

You accuse me of being a member of NAMBLA based on the fact that I stated a couple of truths?

Which of my statements either excused Jackson's behavior, or not the truth?

In this country, people are innocent until found guilty by a jury of their peers...try reading the US Constitution you peckerwood a$$hole POS.

The book in Jackson's possession is not classified as child porn, you can buy it over the counter at book stores, so until a jury decides that in the context of Jackson's other behavior it may have been used to feed his pederasty fantasies, or to seduce children, Jackson is guilty of nothing.

You need to put down the bucket of Colonel Sanders extra crispy, find a stationary bike, and start reading the posts in FreeRepublic so that you can learn some things; real courts are not run like Judge Hatchett's court rooms.
