Arguments against Social Security personal retirement accounts (PRAs) rest on a great deal of incorrect and misleading information. These myths have spread and taken on a life of their own, despite the absence of any factual foundation.
These myths appear valid because they either sound logical or contain phrases that mean one thing in the context of Social Security but something quite different outside of it. Many have spread because workers lack sufficient information both about the way Social Security actually operates and the proposal to use PRAs to reform the system. Other myths have been purposefully initiated to promote a political agenda rather than to advance debate in pursuit of workable reform.

The article does a good job of delineating the lies and distortions the left has sprayed all over the old folks (main target) and trying to leverage and scare the young set in America. They are real scum by any measure, and they only seek to keep the government's hands on your money, and take as much more of it they can.
Once a liberal Marxist, always a liberal Marxist. Big socialist government, their only platform. By the way, how are Hitlery, Teddy and Kerry today???
If I'm not mistaken as Gov't employees they are exempt from SS as they have their own system....
Congressman Billybob

Always feel better seeing you on this issue..thanks!
It's only a rumor, mind you, but I heard they are very ill and dying. ;)
Newly hired Fed employees have been in the Socialist Insecurity system for quite a few years now.
Congress and government workers have been paying into SS since 1983. I believe that govt. workers already hired in 1983 had a choice to either stay in the old system or switch to the new system - Social Security plus a govt. pension.
Virtually all new hires since 1983 have had to join the new system.
I am in the active army and still pay into social insecurity.
That was the old CSRS system that was changed in 1984. Since then, new fed employee's pay SS Tax's and also invest in tsp (thrift savings plan) which is the model bush wants others to be able to do. www.tsp.gov
Thanks all for shedding light on the Govt. plans...another great feature of FR..
Any threat to remove from their control any portion of this massive "tool" is met with wailing and gnashing of teeth. They do not look past their own career lifetimes. If they did, they would see that when THE PEOPLE control their earnings, they tend to produce more wealth for investment, jobs, and goods and services (translated for liberal Democrats, that means more potential for taxation).
One might think that career politicians like Kennedy and Kerry might be concerned that their grandchildren, if they choose to be liberal "masters" like their ancestors, would benefit from such a windfall. Sadly, however, retaining the current power is much more important to them than the success of either the citizens of their country or the preserving of political power for their progeny.
Thanks to Congressman Billybob for his insightful article on one of the feeder groups for that Liberal Democratic power--the national leadership of the AARP. Dues payments from those over 55 give AARP officials their lobbying power. Another group that keeps the masters in charge of the plantation is the national leadership of the NEA, with its forced dues from all members, a base that has been expanded to include not just teachers, but school personnel and others.
The modus operandi is similar: get a large membership base, extract fees, and use those fees to support the Liberal agenda. They have access to the power of the Democratic leaders, and by using their apparatus, the leaders retain their power, to the detriment of American citizens. The Democrats have relied on the mainstream media, the unions and organizations like AARP to conduct their misinformation campaigns on issues of importance. The power of the Internet and cable TV may just begin to remedy that!
Only a revolt from the membership of such organizations (by depriving them of dues) can reverse their attractiveness to the politicians.
EXCELLENT.
Bookmarked.
I just used the calculator, entering my age but trying out both sexes.
Apparently, a female gets a better rate of return under the current system than a male. Why is that??
Ahh, okay. Makes sense.
...I wish articles like these got more attention on FR...
