He gets points here. He admitted being in error (though the statement itself is accurate) and publicly corrected himself.
How many folks go on and say "I was wrong. I did, in fact, do (something) though I said I hadn't." Certainly not Dan Rather, or Kewpie Couric, or anyone at CNN, or MSNBC....
He definitely does need some respect for that! He did exactly what Dan Rather should do but is too coward. For that...he does deserve some props.
