ACTRESS SLAIN
NY Post ^ | January 28, 2005 | MURRAY WEISS, PATRICK GALLAHUE and RICH CALDER

Rick Dembow January 28, 2005 -- A stunning 28-year-old actress died in her fiancé's arms yesterday after a Lower East Side thug answered her challenge — "What are you going to do, shoot us?" — by firing a single bullet into her chest, cops said. Nicole DuFresne, of Brooklyn, had just left a trendy bar with her fiancé and another couple when they were confronted at about 3:15 a.m. by four muggers — two men and two women — at the corner of Clinton and Rivington streets, police said. One of the thugs, who was carrying a gun, demanded money. DuFresne's fiancé, Jeffrey Sparks, 28, not seeing the mugger had a gun and not taking the request seriously, tried to push past the man.

Irony abounds. How many babies aborted by her buds at Planned Parenthood ever had the chance to make a smart-ass remark before they were killed?

Reading the article, it says she did not realize there was a gun and tried to push past.

DiD YOU read the article? It says nothing of the kind. It says her fiance, not realizing the mugger had a gun tried to push past. He was pistol-whipped for his efforts.

According to the story, she then asks, "What are you going to do, shoot us?", after the mugger tries to grab her girlfriend's purse.

Where does it say she did not realize there was a gun?

Why would she ask such a question if she had not seen a gun?

DuFresne had just finished her shift and wanted to go out for drinks, Sparks said, and although he tired to talk her out of it, she insisted. So the four walked to Max Fish, a nearby bar.

Beauty and brains can often go together (my wife, for instance), but not this time.

She was victim of Giulianitis. Too young to remember the cesspool that NYC was in the 1970's-80's. The street smarts that were necessary to navigate the streets then are out of style. The city can revert back as fast as it was resuscitated by Rudy.

She has listed the following things she supported.

Planned Parenthood

Theaters Against War

You can bet this was a gun grabbing liberal with naivety about how the real world works.

Muggers pistol-whipped Jeffrey Sparks (pictured), then killed fiancée Nicole DuFresne after she said, "What are you going to do, shoot us?"

It will be interesting to see if Jeffrey Sparks's political views become more "conservative" in the years to come.

There's brains and then there's street smarts. Obviously, she had a good education and led a relatively comfortable life. But when out at three in the morning in Blood territory and some guy pulls a gun, it's best to just hand over the cash.

Since the mugger did not kill the boyfriend, he wasn't thinking about 'killing all the eyewitnesses'. Since he's now going to face a murder-one charge, he obviously wasn't thinking about that in a calculated way.

Therefore, it does in fact appear like the actress was murdered as a result of her taunting the killer, 'disrespecting' him.

And, from her website, she does seem like the 'devoted leftie', 'hate bush', 'end the capitalist-US oppression in Iraq' type of NY leftie.

So -- what are we left with?

She had 'solidarity' with the underclass, but when they wanted her money, she had distain and sarcasm. Intellectually inconsistent? Yes. And now it is deadly inconsistent.

I agree - money isn't worth killing (or dying) over - but there are a lot of posters who disagree.

The money isn't the thing. This thug has all the value of a cockroach and should be killed with about as much forethought.

The only concern that should be given him is just enough to make sure you have the right person.

That's why concealed carry works: No one will ever be as certain as the potential victim looking down the barrel of a gun.

Locks are not meant to keep HONEST people out. They will only keep out the lazy thieves. Honest people will stay out even if there is a lock.

I bet the NYPD will catch them. It wasn't a lone gunman thing, but four black kids looking to "get paid". Two male. Two female. One of them will start bragging about what they did. Mark my words. They're going to get caught. Then we'll see how her liberal friends handle a trial of these poor victims of society.

The boyfriend was separated from the victim when the shooting took place. He ran up to her after she had been shot.

Concealed carry doesn't work. I've been mugged in pretty much the same way. The mugger always has the element of surprise. No time to reach for a gun. If you think there's a chance you can shoot him as he's getting away, then you're into a gunfight in NYC and the potential of hitting someone who just happens to be walking their dog.

"My Aikido instructor taught me the opposite, not making contact and looking down or away shows weakness and victim status, easy prey."

Please don't try it when a teenager has a pistol at you with a round chambered. The Japanese had that invincible cult attitude during WWII and died in waves thinking that BUSHIDO will win the day. This couple had no firearm to defend themself with. The true master and warrier knows that the best way to not lose a fight is to not be in one. I however have an armed wife and she knows if her pistol must come out someone must become one with a .38 hollow point. But she knows to avoid bad places. These people obviously did not.

The young lady and the young man were the victims of a senseless crime, and I don't blame her for resisting, however ineffectively, these criminals.

Her defiance was dangerously foolish in these circumstances, but blaming the victim is wrong. The only blame that adheres here is to the criminals who gunned her down in cold blood.
