Concealed carry doesn't work. I've been mugged in pretty much the same way. The mugger always has the element of surprise. No time to reach for a gun. If you think there's a chance you can shoot him as he's getting away, then you're into a gunfight in NYC and the potential of hitting someone who just happens to be walking their dog.
I must disagree. When I had my LEGAL concealed carry in NYC, when I was in potentially bad situations I had my Walther PPKs in my hand in my coat pocket.
Good points, but concealed carry makes many criminals think before they attack you. They don't want to get shot either. And studies show that crime has plummetted in counties or cities that allow concealed carry.
Notice how all the murder capitals in the US don't allow concealed carry and many don't allow guns (like my hometown of Chicago)? If these cities allowed it, crime would drop.
Works in Texas. You never know what the dog may be packing.:-)
Wrong. Anyone who takes the time and effort to arm themselves and doesn't take the time and effort to reform their situational awareness is wasting their time.
People who bother to arm themselves usually learn to spot potential situations and avoid them. If you bother to actually learn something about the issue, you will find that an aware and armed person has a potential advantage over a criminal.
One of the problems the cops face is that human reaction time just isn't fast enough to prevent a practiced individual from drawing and firing on them. Cops have to decide in a split second whether the guy is pulling a gun or just being stupid. Cops both kill innocent people and get killed themselves trying to make this distinction. Criminals have to decide whether you are handing over your wallet or pulling a gun, and they don't expect a gun or they just would have shot you in the first place.
Every month, the NRA publishes a handful of verified police reports, many of which are cases where the criminal has a gun trained on someone and winds up dead or in the hospital anyway.
If you think there's a chance you can shoot him as he's getting away, then you're into a gunfight in NYC and the potential of hitting someone who just happens to be walking their dog.
I this is your level of understanding of concealed carry and self defense you should spend some time educating yourself before attempting to debate the subject.
Repeat after me "Baaah Baah Baaah" Say this being sure not to look anyone in the eye.
Sorry but you are wrong. It works about 3 million times a year in the US according to the FBI report. You might want to read it. Also, it worked for me, I stopped a mugger with my carry piece. The carrier has the real element of surprise as the criminal has no idea you are armed and if you are being mugged, it normally will not be in a crowded area. Anytime a criminal has you under a gun you are in danger of dying at his whim. If you are carrying you wait your chance, give him the money and then draw to save your life. Store owners do it everyday and they are being covered by the robber also.
Didn't draw when you should have? Your fault and does not prove concealed carry doesn't work, it proves you don't have the guts to use a weapon when you need it.
