Rick Dembow January 28, 2005 -- A stunning 28-year-old actress died in her fiancé's arms yesterday after a Lower East Side thug answered her challenge "What are you going to do, shoot us?" by firing a single bullet into her chest, cops said. Nicole DuFresne, of Brooklyn, had just left a trendy bar with her fiancé and another couple when they were confronted at about 3:15 a.m. by four muggers two men and two women at the corner of Clinton and Rivington streets, police said. One of the thugs, who was carrying a gun, demanded money. DuFresne's fiancé, Jeffrey Sparks, 28, not seeing the mugger had a gun and not taking the request seriously, tried to push past the man.

I don't think he said she wasn't, and I didn't see anything in his post he ought to be ashamed for saying. Please read it again. I really think you'll want to un-wag that finger.
In NYC the description, including race, of the suspects is recorded on the police blotter, which ius a public document.
Having once been robbed in Thompkin's Square at knifepoint (mentioned on another thread, won't bore here)what you say is certainly true. Very, very true.
I might add that when you are about to be robbed, the perp(s) will be heading in a direction as to cut-off your options by quickly intercepting you as you walk. Ever had the feeling "Whoa! where'd you come from?", well, these folks picked you out long before they decided to move in. And this is a very natural reaction.
In my earlier post on this thread I proposed a solution that would make many of the 'advice' suggestions irrelevant. When a group of people descend to such a level that rape, robbery, and murder become commonplace decisions, such that planning takes place, then they need to be eliminated without predjudice.
Hundreds of well armed citizens could form teams using decoys to draw this predatory element out of the shadows of every major metropolitan city during the early morning hours and kill them.
The death toll would, of course, be staggering. Our cops would be pissed. Every city hall would be calling for the heads of these vigilantes. Yet, the one thing that would go without notice is, everyone in every city would be safer. Much safer. Think 'leave your front door unlocked' safer.
Perhaps it's time to perceive this element as domestic enemies and consider how little our police agencies have succeeded in eliminating this threat to the people at-large. Perhaps it's time cops think outside of the doughnut box. An even better idea would be for them to just get out of the way and go back to what they're really good at, writing parking tickets.
"110% of the fault of this murder lies with the thug-punk that shot her....."
Couldn't agree more.
You're right! How the heck did the bad guy get a gun then? It hardly seem fair. If he can have one to mug someone, what can't other people have one to stop him.
Someone should call the mayor and ask him how this guy got a gun. Good point!
i know...i can't get over how good freepers keep going on about how she did the wrong thing.
i don't get it.
i have a Mongomery-Gentry sense of right and wrong on most stuff...clarity. A robber murderer is wrong. The victim is not.
Wrong about babies, wrong about guns, wrong about queers. That's a lot of being wrong...
It appears as though these thugs didn't care that it is illegal to have a gun in NYC. That after all the efforts by the gun grabbers to make these people safe.
I like you. I like most folks on this thread.
But, so she was wrong about politics and culture and how to react to predators arguably.
What the eff difference does that make. Some heartless stupid kid murdered her for nothing and he will get his life back in 10-15 years and she is gone forever but since she was a lefty that is somehow less wrong to folks.
I don't get...what's wrong with ya'll? (not you particularly but most on this thread)
pardon me but I find the caustic sarcasm about the murder of a young woman to be bad and discouraging and I'm a fairly hardcore animal myself.
My comment was about Rudy. I said nothing about the murder.
LOL....I told you I liked ya first.
My bad....I have pumphead.
I could have sworn you were talking about the dead woman...and yes....you are right about Rudy...a relatively stand up guy but major RINO on culture issues.
Some things I've learned from this is don't get drunk in bad areas and MOST OF ALL have a liberal p***y boyfriend also drunk to be my backup. BTW, did you catch the follow up article about him?
Thanks. I consider you one of the bluechip FReepers FWIW.
as I've aged, I try more to avoid fights...especially gunfights.
i would avoid that area of manhattan to be sure....that was real no man's land in my day
but even though she was a lib and foolish, that does not detract from homey's guilt at all.
i've told folks to kiss my ass at the wrong time too when I was younger....had two Miami cops beat the crap out of my over it at Dodge Island.
Thank You very much.
"For locals, walking on Lower East Side at night is a death wish. "
You must be joking. The lower east side is relatively safe at night. This is an unusual incident for the LES.
She seemed like a good kid who was working her a$% off at night waitressing and trying to get together a career during the day. All the losers that want to dwell on her personal politics seem to be missing the point that an innocent woman was gunned down.
I think her man is scum. He turned his back to her and even now is waxing poetic about being anti-death penalty. Give me a break. But you're right saying something stupid doesn't mean you deserve death.
sorry to see mankind so weak I agree.
It's changed and is NOT the way it was.
