Rick Dembow January 28, 2005 -- A stunning 28-year-old actress died in her fiancé's arms yesterday after a Lower East Side thug answered her challenge "What are you going to do, shoot us?" by firing a single bullet into her chest, cops said. Nicole DuFresne, of Brooklyn, had just left a trendy bar with her fiancé and another couple when they were confronted at about 3:15 a.m. by four muggers two men and two women at the corner of Clinton and Rivington streets, police said. One of the thugs, who was carrying a gun, demanded money. DuFresne's fiancé, Jeffrey Sparks, 28, not seeing the mugger had a gun and not taking the request seriously, tried to push past the man.

Better to be judged by 12 than carried by six.
For sure the guy has always been hung up on clothing and the fashion and modeling scene. You could see it in the album cover art. Was Mick Jagger an early metrosexual? At any rate he has produced at least 6 children, so he has made his mark
Mick's off stage attire is very conservative. Legend has it,he got his on stage dance moves by watching strippers. His ultra-conservative leanings are seen in his off stage life.
"Legend has it,he got his on stage dance moves by watching strippers. "
I always thought he was impersonating Tina Turner.

update:
Police are on the hunt for the person who shot and killed an aspiring actress on the Lower East Side early Thursday morning.
Detectives handed out flyers on Clinton Street Thursday night, close to where 28-year-old Nicole DuFresne was killed early the same morning. On Friday, police released a surveillance tape taken from outside a nearby restaurant that shows the moments leading up to the shooting.
Investigators say they are looking for seven people in connection with the shooting, and are asking any witnesses to also come forward.
No need to be rude. The gentleman said he was old and his only mistake is forgetting there are others who have had other experiences which have worked for them.
Getting old isn't for sissies. Tie a couple of five pound weight around your wrists and then try those quick draws. Fog up your glasses and see what targets you can shoot. Run a mile and then come back and see how many targets you can hit.
I have shot with a Korean War Veteran. He did outshoot me on a man on man steel plate challenge. He's an exception to the rule.
Right. These people were likely at least a little drunk and had probably never even been in a fight. And since they, for whatever reason, didn't avoid coming face to face with these thugs, they should have done whatever possible to make the encounter with them go as quickly as possible and then get the hell out of there.
Give them what they want (especially when they have a gun and you don't) and don't engage in any unnecessary talk with them. Don't keep them there and don't give them any reason to still be there with you.

Mr. Sparks said Ms. duFresne was strongly against capital punishment, and would have felt some sympathy for her young attacker. "This isn't about some bad, murdering criminal," he said. "It's about a culture that makes it so easy for kids to have guns."

In the darkness and confusion, further muddled by the drinking, it was difficult to give the police helpful descriptions later, he said.
"The guy that shot her was of a fairly slight build, I guess," Mr. Sparks said. "They were both young black kids. He didn't look like he was anything more than a teenager."
He continued, "They got me on a computer scrolling through 600 young black men trying to pick one out."
I have a lot of fun shooting bowling pins, balloons, steel plates, water jugs, stationary clay birds and pretty much everything that can be used as a target.
The International Defensive Pistol Matches I go to are starting to look like something a carnival would set up. There are targets that start other targets to move if hit correctly.
Most people I try to get interested in the matches won't go because they're afraid of either making a fool out of themselves or finding out exactly how good or bad they really are. I really don't care. I have my fun and we have a great group of people. We always applaud the new shooters. We have had girls as young as eleven years old competing. Their fathers are the range safety officers.
This guy is a typical liberal wimp. More from the NY Times:
"When I did that, he hit me with the gun, using both hands. He got a really good, hard hit into the left side of my face, my eye," Mr. Sparks said, his face bearing the cuts from the attack yesterday.
"Nicole was asking me if I was all right," he said. The other robber stepped forward and apologized, Mr. Sparks said. "He's like, 'Whoa, whoa, whoa, it doesn't have to be like this, we just need some money.' I said, 'Come on, let's just go,' and started to walk down the sidewalk. I thought Nicole was behind me, but she wasn't.
Mr. Sparks was farther up the block when Ms. duFresne confronted the attackers. The police said she asked the men something to the effect of, "What are you going to do, shoot us next?"
"I don't know if she was going off on the guy or what," Mr. Sparks said. "I heard one shot. Nicole was lying on the street on her back."
"It hit her about two inches away from the heart. I think it pretty much knocked her out instantly. Her eyes were open. She knew when I was there. She could hear me. I could feel her trying, but she gave me this look that let me know that she just couldn't."
"She just loved people, and she was protecting Jeffrey," Ms. duFresne's father said.
"They dissed the thugs. Thug had to demonstrate he had a gun in order to keep his thug "honor" intact. Find the killer and send him to old sparky."
Yes the killer should definitely ride the lightning. I hope however that the ignorant and arrogant pretty people learn from this example.
I think she was a hardcore liberal, but that's no reason to call her a pig or say that she had it coming.
Very few people who live in Manhattan actually drive.
why all this focus on the victims being naive or whatever.
what about the killers?
Exactly! According to what he told the media, the thugs even told him that they didn't want to hurt anyone, but they "needed" some money. I think it was implied that if the leftists didn't hand over some cash, then the thugs would resort to violence, however much they might profess to regret it.
The fact that this nutless wimp walked away and didn't keep his eye on the women while the thugs were still there shows what a profoundly stupid and useless piece of wimpery he is.
Let the buyer beware or the seller be honest type thing...
Some of us just know when to roll our eyes, mostly out of pity. ;)
No, it's not. She and her fiance were definitely NOT the types who would have ever had a filthy, evil gun.
Here's what the fiance said in the NY Times:
Mr. Sparks said Ms. duFresne was strongly against capital punishment, and would have felt some sympathy for her young attacker. "This isn't about some bad, murdering criminal," he said. "It's about a culture that makes it so easy for kids to have guns."
We're talking about hardcore leftists who believe that inanimate objects are so much more dangerous than the sociopathic thugs who use them on innocent people.
Same story plays out once every couple of years.
