Rick Dembow January 28, 2005 -- A stunning 28-year-old actress died in her fiancé's arms yesterday after a Lower East Side thug answered her challenge — "What are you going to do, shoot us?" — by firing a single bullet into her chest, cops said. Nicole DuFresne, of Brooklyn, had just left a trendy bar with her fiancé and another couple when they were confronted at about 3:15 a.m. by four muggers — two men and two women — at the corner of Clinton and Rivington streets, police said. One of the thugs, who was carrying a gun, demanded money. DuFresne's fiancé, Jeffrey Sparks, 28, not seeing the mugger had a gun and not taking the request seriously, tried to push past the man.

Oh man. She'd been raped about six years prior to her death, as well.

It's sad how blinded to the harsh realities of life a leftist can be. Rest in peace.

Just trust me on this point -- you do not want unmarried women over 35 carrying firearms in NYC.

carried by 6

With the weight some folks have it should be carried by 8 or 10 -- extra long carry bars on the coffin. Speaking from experience.

According to the article, her fiance isn't the brightest of bulbs, either. He'd just been hit in the face by the thug. With a gun. Yet, he and his pal figured the incident was over and started walking away? In the mean time, his fiance and his pals gf were being mugged behind him? His self absorbtion continued when he says she died in his arms, angry because HE was injured????

I think, if she was angry, it was because her marshmallow of a fiance left her to deal with the thugs, alone.

Yes, it was a joke. But NYC isn't suitable for a lot of people with carry permits. Again, I have no problem with law abiding citizens carrying, but a lot of people carrying in a large city would be extraordinarily dangerous.

My martial arts teacher passed on one of the best life lessons I've ever heard:
"Avoid the falling rock. Don't be there."

I hope you have your flame retardant underwear on. Some NYC Freeper women might get upset with that remark...

Especially a leftist feminist pig who thought the world revolved around her. They think the TV is truth, idealism is reality, liberalism is salvation, and abortion is freedom. Yep, she had it coming.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't be so harsh, but the fact is that she'd been a victim of an extremely violent crime once already.

Brings a certain Bushism to mind. Fool me once...

My wife is much more well travelled than me. She laughs when I say I would not want to go to NYC because I have no desire to get mugged.

Fact is, I have four friends that have visited NYC on vacations. Three of them were mugged. The guys on business trips don't seem to have a problem though.

I consider NYC to be a fascinating and icky place.

Fortunately, very few people in NYC (or any other large city) carry guns.

Oh wait-that's wrong.

"An armed society is a polite society."

Whenever I go to a shooting range, I am always impressed with how polite everyone is with a hogleg strapped to their thigh.

Speaking as a former shooter, I think people are polite at ranges because they're there to have fun. On the other hand, I've been at matches where you could cut the tension with a knife.
