Rick Dembow January 28, 2005 -- A stunning 28-year-old actress died in her fiancé's arms yesterday after a Lower East Side thug answered her challenge "What are you going to do, shoot us?" by firing a single bullet into her chest, cops said. Nicole DuFresne, of Brooklyn, had just left a trendy bar with her fiancé and another couple when they were confronted at about 3:15 a.m. by four muggers two men and two women at the corner of Clinton and Rivington streets, police said. One of the thugs, who was carrying a gun, demanded money. DuFresne's fiancé, Jeffrey Sparks, 28, not seeing the mugger had a gun and not taking the request seriously, tried to push past the man.

Agreed, allowing citizens to be armed is the ultimate defensive measure. If the criminals know that even trying to take a purse from a little old lady could get them killed by the little old lady or someone near bye that decides to help by putting a bullet in his A$$, then the risk doesn't measure up to the reward and far less crimes would take place. Look at Great Britain and what has happened to the crime rate after banishing guns to law abiding citizens, it went through the roof!

What are you going to do, shoot us?"
Definitively proving that my fourth grade teacher was wrong: there is such a thing as a stupid question.

"And studies show that crime has plummeted in counties or cities that allow concealed carry."
There is truth to that and as a gun lover I agree-however there is more.
'Right to carry' states have an overall strict dealing with crime. Crime is not a right of the oppressed poor but rather a disease that needs to be dealt with. A cop told me once that 90% of crimes are committed by repeat offenders. Locking up criminals does lower crime-who wouldathunk? The social pressure of punishing crime has an overall effect also.

Find the killer and send him to old sparky.Manhattan has a DA named Morgenthau who doesn't like to be mean to murderous thugs. He would fight to keep this killer OUT of the electric chair (or any other form of the death penalty).

I looked at her web site, and it's sad. She had absolutely no clue about the mean streets.

Guns are already banned in NYC for all practical purposes. Yet thug had one. Victim didn't. Yes there should be gun laws -- mandatory carry.Mandatory Carry should be nation wide.

You know how they make folks (especially in NYC) jump thru impossible hoops to get a carry permit? It should be the other way around -- if you are over 25 and under 65 you should have to jump through hoops to get a permit NOT to carry.

I don't understand.Aren't guns outlawed in New York City?
Only for law abiding citizens.
Sadly the thugs and killers still operate as usual.
