"Treaties are adopted by 2/3rds of the Senate, which under the initial Constitution was comprised of representatives chosen by State legislatures."

SM, Not only has that changed, but our trade agreements thus far are NOT "treaties". They have been given to the whole of Congress for an "up or down" vote. Not just the senate. Peace and love, George.

True enough but that does not mean that the treaty making powers or their effect on our laws has faded. Say a US President were to make a treaty with the UN to totally disarm the American population as a sign to the UN community that America wished to be a true partner in global peace....(barf!) Ratification of such a treaty would cut across the US Constitution as part of the aforementioned mechanism and make it a lawful part of our lives. Whether we would let it stand as such without taking up arms is another matter. Hence the moves to unilateral personal disarmament we currently see.

A typical move we can expect from the Democraps, should they ever return to power in the Executive and legislative branch at the same time. God help us if they ever control all three branches at the same time with the DEAN brand of political theory ascendant.
