Navy photos of Submarine USS San Francisco in Dry Dock (you won't believe the extent of damage!)

The amount of damage is simply staggering!
That this boat ever made it back to port is a tribute to its designers, builders, and especially to the crew and captain. How does America keep finding men like these?

The crew complains about the drills, but when it hits the fan, knowing exactly what to do makes all the difference between life and death. Kudos to CDR Mooney and the crew.

I am not sure I see buckling of the hull. Look at the orange construction fence; the walkway to which it is affixed goes "up and over" a bulge in the hull.

Cut off the nose all the way back to the sail. Might as well build a new sub. Just like a bent fender on a unibody van totals the vehicle.

OK that was funny.........

"I am not sure I see buckling of the hull." Top photo, just aft the forward yard worker, look at the shadows, it is buckled up. Also, see the photo I linked to in reply #1.

I don't think so. This looks like a Trident class sub, (I'm no expert, but my fishing buddy is a lead supervisor at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and I've been treated to some inside stuff about the Navy's retro-fitting plans for the Trident fleet), and it was scheduled to be refurbished into a new awesome reincarnation.
They'll probably just rework the retro-fitting schedule since that portion of the sub will be modified anyway.

Please...I think you are exaggerating that a bit. No way it can surpass the nose work Michael has had. :-)
