DENVER - A Denver police sergeant is under investigation for reportedly telling a young woman he'd arrest her if she didn't remove a bumper sticker that had a profanity directed at President Bush.
Shasta Bates, 26, says Denver Police Sgt. Michael Karasek approached her in a Denver shopping mall Monday and said that a bumper sticker on her truck, which includes the F-word and the surname of our president, had to be removed. While the message may be offensive to some, it's not illegal.
"He said that I needed to remove my stickers before I left, and that if I didn't and I showed up here again, and he saw me, he was going to arrest me," said Bates.
"He said my First Amendment (right) wasn't covered under profanity displayed on my truck," said Bates.
But Denver's city attorney has said he's never heard of the law that the sergeant was reportedly enforcing. So far, the Denver Police Department is only confirming that an investigation is underway.
It's just a word. The word "Democrat" is more of a cuss word to me.
No support the troops bumper stickers allowed. No license plates supporting pro life, no american flags on police officer uniforms or on police cruisers.......
Somewhere in Texas a village is missing it's idiot.
My husband asked the guy if he was the one that was missing!!!!
The guy was not amused!!!!! LOL.....
Denver and Boulder are far far left kookburgers.....but for the most part the rest of the state is normally sane!!!!
But the "right" to use the F word against the President for all to see THAT'S okay!
Stunning in the extreme!!
Don't know the scripture, but the Bible says Woe to those who call evil good and good evil.
<><
It ain't BS, DC. But F*** BUSH fits the political climate, so the cop was out of line.
The same bumper sticker that the paper could not show because it was obscene.
Then they need to secede from the Union. US Constitution claims it is the "Supreme Law of the Land". If Denver doesn't like it, there is a mechanism for them to withdraw. It's a bit broken, due to the Civil War, but times are different. They might just succeed in seceding.
The cop probably made a joke and the lesbo went ballistic.
A lady at work had that posted on the wall by her desk. One day I told her I agreed, how could anyone be stupid enough to vote for Shiela Jackson-Lee? She almost spit.... {:0)
cop was out of line. Wrong! He was doing his duty. A citizen called in a complaint, the officer responded, suspect in question was violating the law, officer gave warning to suspect.
She could have been arrested for this!
Where I live there are laws against using profanity on public highways. I know someone who was charged with it. It eventually was dropped but the law is on the books.
I agree with your statement. Communities have a right to establish laws against obscenities and disorderly conduct. Families should be able to bring their children up in a decent environment. I think the young woman can make a statement that let's us know her views on President Bush without using profane language. The officer responded appropriately, good for him.
Suits me, the place is a cesspool. I won't go there or patronize any buisness there. I tell merchents that, I won't pay taxes to support that town. Too bad I have to miss the Sportsmans Exposition again, though.
some bumbers just beg to be chained to telephone poles
also bumpers
Get it?
Sad thing is according to libs... it took that village to raise her! LOL!!!
BTW, according to the city attorny, she violated no law and could not be lawfully arrested. The officer will be made to appologize. Sucks, but then it IS Denver.
