Heavenly Father, we join together in prayer for this historic and important event in world history. Grant your peace and protection to those engaged in making this election happen, to those who will vote, and to the candidates and officials of this election.
May the Iraqi people rise up to throw off the yoke of oppression and evil that still binds them. Stay the hand of the forces of evil and greed that are ranged against those who work for good, for freedom and for true justice.
We pray for the success, safety and bravery of the Iraqi people of good will in this perilous time. Lord, we pray most humbly that our brave soldiers and contractors be kept safe from harm and successfully complete this perilous mission. May they feel and understand the many and sincere prayers of people of faith for their success and safety. Amen

SPECIAL REQUEST FROM LYLE SHACKELFORD,
SERVING AS A CHAPLAIN WITH U.S. ARMY UNIT IN IRAQ:
As a transportation battalion, my unit will be delivering the voting machines and the ballots to villages and cities throughout Iraq during the upcoming elections. (January 30/31)
Our convoys are prime targets for the insurgents because they do not want the equipment to arrive at the polling stations nor do they want the local Iraqi citizens to have the chance to vote; timely delivery must occur so that the elections occur.
Encourage your friends and family members and those within our churches to pray specifically for the electoral process.
Historically, the previous totalitarian regime would not allow individual citizens to vote. Democracy will not be realized in Iraq if intelligent and competent officials are not elected to those strategic leadership positions within the emerging government; freedom will not have an opportunity to ring throughout this country if the voting process fails.
Announce this prayer request to your contacts throughout your churches, neighborhoods, and places of business. Those with leadership roles within the local church post this message in as many newsletters and bulletins as possible. There is unlimited potential for God's presence in this process but if we do not pray then our enemy will prevail (See Ephesians 6:10-17)
A prayer vigil prior to the end of the month may be an innovative opportunity for those within your sphere of influence to pray.
This is a political battle that needs spiritual intervention.
A powerful story about God's intervention in the lives of David's mighty men is recorded in 2 Samuel 23:8-33. David and his warriors were victorious because of God's intervention. We want to overcome those who would stand in the way of freedom. David's mighty men triumphed over incredible odds and stood their ground and were victorious over the enemies of Israel. (Iraqi insurgents' vs God's praying people). They don't stand a chance.
I will pray with my soldiers before they leave on their convoys and move outside our installation gates here at Tallil.
My soldiers are at the nerve center of the logistic operation to deliver the voting machines and election ballots. They will be driving to and entering the arena of the enemy. This is not a game for them it is a historical mission that is extremely dangerous. No voting machines or ballots. No elections. Your prayer support and God's intervention are needed to give democracy a chance in this war torn country.

Thank you, Lord, that we free people are able to come together in this manner to pray for our fellow men and women in Iraq, that they might be safe from harm to vote for their freedom on Sunday, that they might have the ability to take part in the raising of their own children in a loving and peaceful way, and that their children - a new generation - might taste the freedom of a democracy where they are in control.
Thank you also, dear Lord, for giving us this new day of hope.

Praying here too. Beside that I am planning to visit Peter's tomb and the relics of the Passion we have here next sunday.

During a recent reading of the Christmas story, I was reminded anew of the fact that God knows the intentions of men's hearts. Example: God warned Joseph to flee to Egypt because "Herod is going to search for the child to kill him." (Matt. 2:13)
My mind went to the evil intentions in the hearts of the terrorists we are fighting in Iraq. God doesn't control men's actions, i.e., free will. But He can and does "expose" the evil intentions of the heart so as to protect the innocent.
I've turned this thought into a prayer. "God expose and reveal to the Iraqi people, the Iraqi forces and to the Coalition forces the evil that is plotted by the terrorists. Give wisdom, courage, and strength to thwart the enemy's schemes."
Yesterday's report of the discovery of a huge weapons cache was, in my mind, an unveiling of evil intentions.
Let's keep praying all weekend for the elections in Iraq.
Amen. What a wonderful post and reminder, freedom4me. May the actions of those who plan and plot evil be made visible to all people of peace and good will in this time of trial in Iraq.
We often forget that evil intentions are not invisible, even when words and deception are used to mask the true intent. Those whose hearts and minds are willing to confront evil will see it and know it. Those whose deepest desire is to profit from the evil ways of others will turn their face away -- and will ultimately pay the consequences.
