OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Republicans have discovered and verified 737 illegal votes in Washington's ultra-close governor's election, state party leaders said Wednesday.
The state GOP has filed briefs telling a judge why he shouldn't dismiss the party's legal challenge to the election of Democratic Gov. Christine Gregoire.
"Clearly we have more illegal votes than the margin of victory," state Republican Party Chairman Chris Vance said. "The law is on our side."
Gregoire won the election by just 129 votes in a hand recount of 2.9 million ballots, after losing the first two counts to Republican Dino Rossi. She was inaugurated earlier this month.
Rossi and the Republican Party filed an election challenge in Chelan County Superior Court, suing the state and all 39 counties. The state Democratic Party and several of the counties have filed motions to dismiss the case. Judge John E. Bridges has scheduled the next hearing for Feb 4.
Democrats respond that while the election was close, it's over and Gregoire is the legitimate governor. They argue the proper place for an election challenge is in the Legislature, not the courts.
Vance has noted correctly that Democratic legislators have already said they don't want to decide the election and they think it belongs in the courts.
Democrats on Wednesday dismissed the GOP's latest finding as "Rossi rhetoric," saying it's not enough to nullify the election.
"The GOP has regularly exaggerated problems in the election," state Democratic Party spokeswoman Kirstin Brost said in a news release.
Vance said Wednesday that Republicans determined the number of felons who voted illegally by comparing voting rolls from the secretary of state with a list of convicted felons from the State Patrol, and checking each name to determine whether the person's voting rights had been restored.
Vance said the 737 illegal votes broke down like this:
-186 felons in King County
-54 felons from elsewhere in the state
-44 people who died before absentee ballots were mailed
-10 who voted twice in Washington state
-6 who voted in Washington and another state
-437 provisional ballots that were illegally fed directly into voting machines, as reported by King, Pierce and Stevens counties.
The King County prosecutor has asked the county sheriff to investigate four possible cases of voter fraud, prosecutor's spokesman Dan Donohoe said. Three involve people suspected of voting on behalf of dead relatives, and one is a person who may have voted twice.
"reality based community"...
Are those the folks who still think Kerry "had their back" and was "working behind the scenes"? Ha ha ha ha hah!
"I BELIEVE". HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!
.....737 illegal votes in governor's election.....Washington is an 'al-Qaeda' state?
You got your wish!
What's your problem dude????????
Dang, I was too late...........
Now I'm saying goodnight
And it keeps getting worse, doesn't it.
Bookmarked.
Well, the Democrats have been screaming about "fraud" for years, Florida, Ohio - even though they looked and looked and cound not find evidence of it.
In Washington the 'Pubs looked, and found conclusive evidence of fraud in excess of the margin of victory as soon as they started looking for it.
But the 'rats don't think that evidence should be considered. The only thing that should control events is not facts, but, instead how THEY "feel" things should be.
Well, there's always the chance that the 737 mysterious votes were actually cast by the citizens of Washington state-- well, at least they were voters at ONE time. I've heard a few things about liberal registers and graveyards before my time, and old habits tend to die hard with leftists (hence Harry Reid's carbon-dated depression rhetoric about "soup kitchens", etc). I would check the names against the local headstones if I were the Wash. State Republican Party.
ping. Good one. Doubt if you'll see this in the Inquirer.
"Votes of the Dead ( Wonder how they marked that ballot ?)"
Not sure how they marked them, but it's interesting that the signatures actually matched on 4 of the 8 ballots (which were mailed after the people died), or so I've heard (talk radio). Kinda makes one wonder how they managed that.
BTW Stefan Sharkansky has calculated a 3700 vote discrepancy, rather than the 1800 frequently mentioned. If you want to read more about that, see my post here http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1327195/posts
The Dems have been doing this for a long time!! They KNOW how to do it and have the "FIX" in the works for each election! This is what happened in FLA in 2000. Who ever was the "Bag Man" must have really screwed up!
Like I have said before, lets go and recruit all of DU to help in this struggle to ensure only legal votes get counter. I mean, it is all about the integrity of the vote and the process, not who wins or loses, right?
Oh, yes! absolutely! right! </sarc>
Kerry won Pennsylvania by 120,000 votes but his margin in just the city of Philadelphia, with lots of 100-105% precinct turnouts, was 400,000.
Kerry won Michigan by 150,000 votes but without Detroit Bush won the rest of the state handily, but a bigger margin.
Without Chicago, Bush wins Illinois.
Without Los Angeles and San Francisco, Bush takes California by a hair.
Without four of five boroughs in New York, Bush wins NY state by a hair.
Amazing, isn't it? Inner city black votes, both legitimate and fraudulent, are all that is standing between the Democrats and permanent electoral defeat. That's why Bush is playing up African-American issues this term. If the fraud can be prevented and the black turnout shift from 90:10 to 80:20 or 75:25, the Democrats will be in permanent minority status for a looong time.
Someone remind me of the difference between democrats and organized criminals.
Uhhhhhh....
The number was closer to 46,000 voters registered in both states, 68% of whom were registered as Democrats.
