"Since 1997. Any USB peripheral will work on a Mac."
Yep, they give you two ports, one for the keyboard( they don't give you ), and one for the USB port expander you will need to attach anything other then the mouse ( that they don't give you )

With the 1.4 Ghz and 80 Gig drive upgrade, you're up to about $700 ....
Whatever happened to that all-in-one that looked like a table lamp ?
"... and just try to load the USB drivers from those mini-CD's via the slot drive ..."
Whaaaaaat? They're putting drivers on those 3" dealies? Or those semi-circular ones with what look like cut off edges?
I've always thought mini-CD's were cool, but c'mon, some people have slot drives... excellent point. Aren't there adapters for those, though?
If you buy the Apple keyboard, or many third-party keyboards, it itself has two extra USB ports on it. If you buy a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse, you don't need any USB ports. If you want more, a USB hub is something like $8.99 these days.
Not including the keyboard and mouse is deliberate. Most people already own a keyboard and mouse, so it would be a waste of money to be forced to buy another one.

USB drivers? The drivers come preloaded for anything small. Printers and scanners and such install from CDs, which is hardly surprising. Not sure when you would ever find software on a "mini-CD".
Mac keyboards also have a USB port, so the mouse is plugged into that - or whatever you want/need, so the keyboard/mouse only requires one USB port.
Or, you get the wireless mouse and keyboard from Apple, or Logitech, or whoever - most if not all of them work just fine.

USB drivers? On Mini-cds? On a Mac? It's built into the OS - one thing Windows could really use - universal USB/Firewire drivers. I use wireless mice, a Wacom table, several USB cameras, a Optical monitor calibrator, an iPod, an ADS A/V Pyro dv capture box, an Epson 2200 printer, and several USB and Firewire external drives and DVD burners, and the only one that needed specific drivers was the Epson printer. On my Windows laptop, I've needed specific drivers for just about all of them. The only one I did'nt was a flash thumb drive.

They're free on Dell's?
USB drivers? For what? I have yet to be required to load any USB drivers for ANY products...., and I use a lot of them....
Don't forget: 256meg standard, +$75 to get to 512meg; +$425 to get to a gig(!). WTF???

umm my wife has never had to install a usb driver on their Mac, she plugs something in and it works.
I'm using it.
