State Dept. Issues Travel Warning for Mexico

WASHINGTON (AP) - The State Department on Wednesday issued a travel warning for Americans visiting Mexico, saying violent criminal activity, including murder and kidnaping, has increased in its northern border region.

"U.S. citizens should be aware of the risk posed by the deteriorating security situation," the department said in a public announcement. It added that the great majority of victims are Mexican citizens.

The announcement attributed the increased crime to a war between criminal organizations struggling for control of the lucrative narcotics trade. It said the leaders of several major criminal organizations have been arrested, creating a power vacuum.

"This has resulted in a wave of violence aimed primarily at members of those trafficking organizations and criminal justice officials," the announcement said.

violent criminal activity, including murder and kidnaping, has increased in its northern border region.

So, is this the fault of the volunteer militia at our southern border?

Or, does this mean, we don't need no militia at our southern borders because all the Mexicans that are at their northern border won't illegally cross into our southern border?

Or, does this mean that the illegals who come into the U.S. are NOT the violent, murderous, kidnapping types? (/sarcasm)

Well, I doubt that US citizens will yell "OSAMA" at the Mexican players as they did our team while in Mexico City.

My point is that the spectators will probably NOT be US citizens.

"Whatever happened to the WOD? Whatever happened to the DEA? Even if we stopped the illegals ivading for employment we'd still have the violent drug cartels pushing their sh$t."

The Mexican gangs have moved their operations into the states.

I have lived in San Diego most of my adult life and used to cross the border four or five times a year.
All that has changed now. The only way you'll find the wife and me in Mexico is by way of a cruise ship.
One day in port is more than enough. couple of hours and we're back on board Safe,Warm, and gone the next day.

Viva Mexico. And may God Continue to Bless the U.S.of A.

Wife an I just got back from Cancun last week . Had a great time . People were friendly and the place really amazed me as to how clean it was. Even the Centro was a treat . Had a Sam's club and a Walmart too!! Felt a bit like home ( except it was 75 degrees warmer )

You don't need to go to Mexico there are plenty of cities in California that will make you think you are in Mexico!

YES!!! :o)

I think she had this in mind from the get-go as a signal she means business. I would almost subscribe to the Times just to hear the gnashing of teeth when these clinton appointees bite the dust. You like buttered or plain? I prefer the Kettle Corn myself. :o)

Cancun has become a big spring break destination for the college kids with access to some of their parents money. The Mexicons can't afford to have tooooooo many kidnappings or toooooo much crime their. Methinks the word is out that the local police actually have to keep it relatively crime free to suck up all those tourist bucks.

Cancun is how Mexico ought to be. It's not like it is outside the sheltered tourist areas.

Ironically, it's the Mexican border cities to America that are absolutely the worst.

I have never understood why Americans want to visit Mexico.

I go there because I can get my medicine cheap but now you have to go to a Mexican Dr and get a prescription first. TJ is a crime zone, I'm having second thoughts on visiting Mexico again anytime soon.

Do I feel the borders are closing in? Oh please? Oh please!

Would appreciate a case of claustrophobia in this scenario.

The company had a guy on retainer that did nothing but accompany us everywhere we went to pay bribes (the bite).

Yup. That's the way it's done. It's just the way it's done.

Ain't multiculturalism great?

Yes, that is what I meant, the police and military are criminals also. No win situation, unless you have a lot of money to fork over.

Mexico has been a hellhole since its revolution in the early 20th century.

I've always, always been grateful that the territory that became the United States was not settled predominantly by the Spanish. Those lands that were colonized by Spain have not thrived as well in their laws, management, government processes, etc.

Lou Dobbs, CNN
www.cnn.com/lou

PILGRIM: The president's proposal was critiqued by Representative James Sensenbrenner, who says it lacks detail. Sensenbrenner's own plan toughens standards for issuing driver's licenses to what he calls foreign visitors; aliens must prove that they are here lawfully; the license would expire when their visa does; and the bill also calls for closing a three-mile hole in the U.S.- Mexican border fence.

REP. JAMES SENSENBRENNER (R), CHAIRMAN, JUDICIARY COMMITTEE: American citizens have a right to know who is in their country, that people are who they say they are and that the name on the driver's license is the real holder's name, not some alias.

PILGRIM: Sensenbrenner pointed out that Mohammad Atta, a 9/11 terrorist, received a six-month visa to stay in the United States, yet received a Florida driver's license good for six years. The Sensenbrenner proposal already has political battle scars when it originally was part of the intelligence bill last December.

Today, attacked by Democrats on the hill, Congresswoman Jane Harman today issued a statement saying the laws call for states to provide tamper-proof driver's licenses. She said the Sensenbrenner proposal will not make Americans safer. She also criticized President Bush for not demanding full funding for 10,000 border guards called for in the intelligence reform bill.

Sensenbrenner today rallied against that attack saying the current bill is bipartisan with 115 co-sponsors.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

PILGRIM: The Sensenbrenner bill also takes issue with the system where immigrants seek asylum. He says it's abused by terrorists, and he wants to allow immigration judges to determine the credibility in asylum cases so terrorists cannot get into the country on false pretexts -- Lou.

DOBBS: You know, we've reached a great point in this country, when there is a debate even over whether or not people who are not citizens of this country can receive a driver's license, let alone whether they're illegal or not, and the very idea that a president could be talking about immigration reform, but his Homeland Security secretary is saying, well, we can't really be bothered with adding another 2,000 Border Patrol agents to 2,000- or 3,000-mile the border.

PILGRIM: The good part of this is everyone is calling attention to it as much as they can, and it's very, very visible now, the gaps in the system -- Lou.

DOBBS: And our sense of absurdity is being overwhelmed, as it often is in Washington, D.C., and, hopefully, a few people's sense of alarm as well.

That brings us to the subject of our poll tonight: Do you support Congressman Sensenbrenner's bill to stop illegal aliens and potential terrorists from obtaining driver's licenses in this country? Yes or no. We ask that you vote at loudobbs.com. We'll have the results for you later in the broadcast.
